Best Video Games to Completely Take Over Your Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Spring break is the ideal time to catch up on the things you love to do, whether that’s mountain hiking or binge watching How to Get Away With Murder on Netflix. For those who want to curl up with a controller and get lost in beautiful virtual reality, we have you covered! Here are some of the best new games out there for everyone to enjoy, with beautiful visuals, storylines, and in some cases, loads of  nostalgia!

Unravel:

Unravel is a gorgeous puzzle platform game with one of the most adorable heroes! You control Yarny, a yarn sprite, who goes through a woman’s childhood and collects memories through beautiful landscapes. The soundtrack is amazing, and this is a great game to play while sipping on a cup of tea and snuggled under a blanket. And just in case you become obsessed with the game like I am, you can make your own Yarny!

Firewatch:

If you’re all about riveting storylines and first person adventure, then Firewatch is perfect for you. The game follows a volunteer fire lookout, Henry, in the Wyoming wilderness after the Yellowstone fires of 1988. With just himself and a walky talky linking him to a fellow lookout, Delilah, he goes through an emotional (and visually stunning) journey. The music is ominous and fantastic, and the plot will follow you long after you finish the game.

Undertale:

Want a dose of nostalgia and a plot that makes you giggle countless times? Undertale, Undertale, Undertale. It’s a role-playing game with top-down perspective that is reminiscent of old school 80’s favorites, but with a refreshing plot and plenty of puns. It involves a lot of dialogue and story, but getting to know the characters is the best part. That, and it is ridiculously adorable. This game has gotten A LOT of critical acclaim when it came out last fall, and not much has changed.

Rise of the Tomb Raider:

Were you a master tomb raider as a kid? If not, it’s about time you started! Lara Croft is back as the quintessential adventurer in this reboot of the classic series. There’s survival, there’s ancient magic, there’s Lara being inhumanly acrobatic, and of course, there’s tombs.

Slime Rancher:

You play Beatrix LeBeau, a rancher on an adorable alien planet, wrangling adorable slimes and taking care of them in corrals, then selling their ‘plorts’ (read: poop) for money. Trust me; it’s about as cute as games get. There are amazing bright colors and all different types of slime balls to collect and take care off in this first-person adventure game. And yes, there are kitty slimes, so if you want to upgrade your Neko Atsume skills, now is your chance.

No matter what game you end up playing over that glorious break, we hope it rests you up and that you have a blast playing it! Happy gaming!
