Oh how times have changed! Back in the 1950s, Marilyn Monroe was considered to be the sexiest woman in Hollywood and captured the hearts of millions in her short life. However, in today’s modern world, Marilyn would be considered overweight and would probably not fit the requirements of a contemporary fashion model.
What happened since then? Well, society changed and the way we view women has, also. In the 50s, Marilyn wore a size 16, which in today’s clothing is a size 6 or 8.
Throughout the years, gender roles have changed throughout history. Women have a higher education, higher positions in work forces, and are able to take care of themselves without a man. If women can do all of this, why have society’s image of a woman gotten worse? In internet, magazines and other forms of social media, women are displayed to be skinny and un-curvy. In the past, the “hourglass” figure, like Marilyn’s, was the ideal body for a woman to have, not the body of an anorexic model like this:
Now, girls throughout the world feel the need to work hard or even starve themselves to be super skinny because their self-esteem is low and they think that’s what guys will want. When, according to studies, 80 percent of men prefer curvy women over thin girls.
It’s time to get girls feeling good about themselves again! Stop putting each other down and start telling them they’re beautiful. We don’t need to look like centerfolds, because those are not real women! The real women are the ones we see in the grocery store everyday or our next neighbors down the street; women like Marilyn Monroe.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!
