Why did you choose Millersville? My mom was a Millersville student, and Penn Manor was my dad’s high school. So I have known about the University my whole life. However, the main reason I picked Millersville was because it’s very affordable and in close proximity to my apartment in Lancaster City.

What is your favorite thing about your time at Millersville? Because it’s a small campus, it’s easy to meet people and make connections. As a commuter, I thought it would be difficult to network but I’ve actually managed to make a lot of friends in my short time here. It’s a great community.

Why did you choose your major? I chose to study marketing and public relations because of the flexibility the two have in the business world. Although both fields have a different strategy, they share a similar purpose. It is a broad major, which allows endless possibilities for my future career path.

Are you involved in anything on campus? Besides writing for Her Campus, I am also a member of PRSSA (The Public Relations Student Society of America).

What positions have you held in Her Campus Millersville Chapter? I am a weekly snapshot writer. I began by taking pictures of things happening on campus, but lately have shifted towards interviewing students. I take a picture of someone who has an interesting outfit, and then conduct a Q&A of what inspires their style.

If someone were to join/become Her Campus, what do you think is the best takeaway? It is really cool to be a part of a global magazine, and because it’s online you’re able to look back at all of the pieces you’ve written and see how you’ve developed as a writer.

Since your dad was a contractor in the Navy, where all did you live? I lived in England, Virginia and Pennsylvania. I also spent a summer in Italy and traveled to many countries while living overseas.

How long did you live in these places? I was born in England and lived there twice, for a total of 9 years. In between that time I also lived in northern Virginia for five years. When I was 14 I moved to Lancaster where I have lived ever since.

What’s your favorite memory from living abroad? I lived on a really old horse farm near London which was an amazing experience. I love animals so it was a perfect place to grow up. But I also have great memories of taking day trips into the city and traveling to historical places. The great thing about the U.K. is that everything is in close proximity, making it easier to travel. There were several times my family would drive to Wales or Scotland, and it never took long to get there. You can even take a train into France.

Would you recommend living or studying abroad? Absolutely. I truly believe that by immersing yourself in another culture, you are able to see the world differently and can gain valuable insight. Sometimes we become ethnocentric, ignoring the world around us. Living abroad opens your mind to new things and allows you to accept those who may be different. Not only will you discover new things about yourself in the process, but you can try amazing foods while doing so!

What is your favorite thing to do on campus? I’m a very social person; I love meeting up with my friends in between classes and having late night study sessions in the library. Because this is my last year, I’m learning to appreciate the small things about college life.

What do you plan to do after graduation? I intend to find a marketing/PR job in Lancaster City or somewhere close to my current apartment. After a year or two in Lancaster, I would then like to transition to a larger company in another city or state. I also want to travel more, and have been planning to take a trip to Thailand with my sister to volunteer with elephants.

What will you miss the most about Millersville? Although school isn’t always fun, I do enjoy learning and it will be bittersweet to leave. I think I will miss the campus as a whole, just simply being there.

Do you have a mantra you live by? If so, what is it? Be extraordinary.

My name is Jenna Moyer, I'm 21 years old, and I am currently a junior at Millersville University where I'm an Early Childhood and Special Education major. I love kids and I have a 3 year old nephew, who also happens to be my godson! My favorite color is purple and lilies are my favorite flower. I am absolutely obsessed with the show Friends! I love going to concerts, even concerts where I have no idea who bands are, because that's how you get to know good music. My favorite band is Parachute. I love my friends, boyfriend, and family, and I would have no idea what I would do without them!
