The Thrifty Girl’s Guide to Jeffree Star

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami chapter.

Jeffree Star has a cult following on his social media accounts like Instagram and Snapchat because of his brutally honest reviews of other makeup products and his own line of makeup products. Some of you, myself included, may not want to support his brand because it’s a pretty steep price per lipstick at $18.00 a pop, but no worries, as a self-proclaimed makeup guru I make it my job to find cheaper options because I’m ballin’ on a budget. The four bestselling shades on his website, which sell out in a matter of minutes, include Unicorn Blood, Celebrity Skin, Androgyny, and Scorpio.

Unicorn Blood, a coveted shade of rich deep red, can be found in lipsticks like Nyx Liquid Suede in Cherrie Skies ($7) and Kiko Liquid Lipstick in 113 Black Cherry.

Celebrity Skin dupes include Nyx Liquid Suede in Sandstorm ($7) and L.A. Girl Matte Flat Lipstick in Snuggle ($4). This shade is also similar to the summer launch color Nude Beach, although Nude Beach is warmer toned than Celebrity Skin, which has an almost grey tone.

A few Androgyny dupes include Essence lip liner in 05 Soft Berry ($2), Colourpop matte liquid lipstick in Stingraye ($6) and Kleancolor Madly Matte Lip gloss in Winterberry ($2). This beautiful mauve shade is the perfect everyday lip color for all skin tones.

Scorpio is a grey-based lavender. Dupes of this color include Colourpop’s Matte Lipstick in Marshmallow ($6) and Nyx Lip Lingerie in Embellishment ($7). If you prefer lip pencil instead of matte lipstick, Colourpop also sells marshmallow in a lip pencil ($5). Scorpio is truly a unique shade with no complete dupe; Marshmallow is  a little lighter and more blue based and Embellishment is more pink toned.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics’ limited edition summer launch, released July 3rd, included Velour Liquid Lipsticks in the shades 714, Nude Beach, Queen Bee, Virginity and Watermelon Soda. A few of the dupes for the color “714” (peachy orange) include Nyx Matte Lipstick in Hippie Chick ($6), which is a little lighter than 714, and Colourpop Lippie Stix in Cake or Fiesta ($5 each).

Nude Beach dupes include Nyx Matte Lipstick in Orange Soda ($6) and MAC Lipstick in Sweet and Sour ($17).

You can fool anyone into thinking you’re wearing Queen Bee, a vibrant yellow shade, by wearing either Lime Crime lipstick in New Yolk City ($8) or Nyx lipstick in Citrus ($6).

Virginity, contrary to what the name suggests is a light lilac hue, which is very similar to Nyx lipstick in Power ($4) and Violet Voss liquid lipstick in Lovesick ($12).

Dupes for Watermelon Soda include Nyx Liquid Suede in Life’s a Beach ($7) and Colourpop Brooklyn ($6).

So be free and spend less money on some beautiful shades of lipstick!!

I love makeup, crime TV, and melted cheese.
