What is it with boys from Nashville? They’re well-mannered, well-dressed and a perfect candidate to take home to mom. Kean W. Devine follows after fellow Chi Psi brother, Conor O’ Bryan, as this week’s campus cutie.

The junior Miami University student breaks the college male stereotype,  whilst perfecting the art of keeping a well-balanced lifestyle between school and a social life. If the bachelor is not locked away in his studies, he is for sure to be among the convivial crowd, looking anything short from cool.

Her Campus: What was the last the concert you went to?Kean W. Devine: I went back to Nashville for Death of Rebuff 1979, they are a Canadian band, they’ve been gone for 6-8 years but they put out an album about three weeks ago, so it’s kind of their comeback tour, and I’ve been into them since high school. So, I figured I could skip two classes to check something off my hit list and I drove about five hours. I was gonna meet up with a friend but he got sick. I mean I don’t mind it because really, for the most concerts anyway that I go to it’s a personal experience, not really there to share it with anybody. So like when, Cherub came, that was a super fun one to have friends at, because you’re having a good time. “Dancier” concerts are more fun for that. I came out with a very sore neck, it was pretty heavy.

HC: What do you have planned post-Miami?KD: I think the first shot is law school. UT Knoxville is a really good program, and [I’ll] shoot for Vandi maybe. I definitely want to stay in the southeast, if not Tennessee. [At least] I think so. It kind of sucks because you’re only this age once and you’re not going to have the chance to have the opportunities that you have now but at the same time, student loans are no joke — the sooner to get the paycheck the better.

HC: What do you plan to do with those degrees?KD: I think, it sounds stupid boring, but I like probate law right now, which is basically setting up wills and estates, wealth management. It’s a lot of writing and contract drawing, and I like writing – it’s what I am pretty good at, so I figured that it will be well suited for me.

HC: So, was this a dream you’ve had since you were a kid?KD: (laughs) No, I think it’s something I kind of figured I’d be good at. I take a lot of law based courses. I know no one really aspires for it but I think I kind of arrived to it. When I was born, I wasn’t crying. The nurse, like looks at me and then my mom and says, ” Honey, that boy is gonna be a judge.” I dont know, I guess she was right. Being a judge would be pretty cool.

HC: What is your favorite band or musician?KD: That’s kind of tough. If I had to say, because they’ve played such a pivotal role in getting me into the music, I’d have to say White Stripes. Also, I’m bit of a Jack White fan boy. He is a genius.

HC: Do you have a favorite song by them?KD: They have a lot of really good ones. Screwdriver is really good because of the riff, but I’m not much of a lyrical guy. I really go for overall sound and emotions it evokes, which is why I am kind of okay with electronic music. It does call for words.

HC: If you could pick any city to live in, which would you choose?KD: Any city? I don’t know, I really do love Nashville. I’d like to see where it is in 10 years. If it were just a little bit more urban, it probably be the perfect place for me.

HC: What kind of social life do you prefer?KD: I am much more of a person who likes a small group of friends over and enjoy each other’s company, instead of a big rager. But then at the same time I am not like so shy that I’m not going to say, “hey,” to anyone. I guess I strike a balance.  Ya know, I wish I could have more time to go out, but I really want to do well in the academia, to leave with a degree that actually means something. All of that, for me, seems to come first.

HC: If academics is your first priority, then what falls as your close second?KD: I guess, a very close second is keeping a good social life. It was when we had our alumni weekend, my grand big and my big went to go see the motorycle ghost. Its stuff like that, things you can go do and say you did, learn something else about the world. Ya know, and having a good time with people you like clusters together for second place.

HC: What was your biggest romantic gesture?KD: Um (laughs) to be honest with you, it is pretty rare for me to do something romantic. But back in eighth grade, I pulled the classic mixtape. That was pretty good. It’s very weir, I am a romantic to a certain regard, but I just haven’t found the avenue to express it. I think it’s given that the social structure of Miami makes it harder to make a healthy relationship. I am more content to “shop” around, ya know, to take the time to meet someone that really cool and I want to hang around. Ya know, they are their own person but compliment me.  I like to have things very lined up before pursuing it.

HC: Do you regard yourself as being Type A?KD: I compartmentalize things a lot. Controlling I guess could be a word for it. I used to be very laid back and didn’t care about anything, a cool customer. At some point I found out that attitude doesn’t really get you anywhere, so I sort of became more take charge and organized. I like the way I am in that regard when it comes to stuff that really matters but I still want to still have the ability to cut loose and not feel too bad if something doesn’t go exactly right to plan. I think most of my life, most of everyone’s life, is a balancing act between two opposing forces.

HC: What was your most embarrassing moment?KD: I get grilled a lot from my frat. But we had a banquet and [my big] got up there, and it was right after he was talking about Conor [O’Bryan] so I immediately knew I was next. I am like burying my face in my hands, just knowing he was going after me. The toast ended up being to hot Chi Psi’s. Drink out of the boot for that one. That was pretty embarrassing.

HC: Who/ What are your biggest inspirations?KD: I draw inspirations from a lot of people and places. A lot of my friends are deep thinkers and really smart guys. Even if they are not pulling 4.0’s they are just really intelligent. I really pull that way of thinking from them. I think my dad is big inspiration, he is a really smart guy and a good leader, but gentle in a way. He was really good dad with me and my brother. Just really well read. But if you’re looking for more of a figure head, it’s Thomas Jefferson. Sure he has skeletons in his closet, but I always thought he was a really cool guy. He is the stereotypical Renaissance man.

HC: Celebrity Crush?KD: Anne Hathaway. I’ll be real, — she is beautiful. She is like Audrey Hepburn, but a little bit more womanly. Audrey Hepburn looks like a girl, Anne Hathaway is a woman and that’s what I’m about (laughs).

HC: What is your biggest pet peeve in a girl?KD: Playing dumb and people who don’t have anything to say, they just act average, which isn’t true everyone is interesting and everyone has a story. I don’t know, those that lay over and die in conversation; I just hate it.

HC: What are the best qualities you look for in a girl?KD: Girls with pretty laughs. That’s a kill shot. If I just like the way a girl laughs, I am immediately more attracted. But other than that, intelligence is really important to me — having somebody that can keep up.
