The brisk air, dry heating, and see-sawing between cold to hot, hot to cold temperatures is not good for your skin. One thing is for sure, trying to cover it up with makeup will only make the appearance of dryness worse, with your foundation sitting on top of patches of dry, blotchy spots. Instead, consider treating yourself inside and out, for glowing skin that won’t even require makeup! Follow the tips below to keep your skin feeling hydrated and fresh!
Drink Water, Loads of It
We’ve heard it over and over again, “drink at least eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated!” Well, it’s only because it’s true, and now with the drier air, our skin needs to lock in that moisture even more! Keeping in the moisture starts from hydrating your insides, quite literally! If you’re having trouble drinking enough water, it helps to carry around a water bottle (preferably a clear one). Whenever it catches your eye that the bottle is still full, take a few sips, and don’t be shy! This is the one situation where chugging and downing some fluids will not only help you prepare for Carnival but also keep you feeling fantastic! Alternatively, you can try sipping on some de-caffeinated herbal teas!

Day Regimen
First thing to do when you wake up is definitely drink some water or tea to flush out your system to refresh, and reset your body to start a new day. Showering in the morning is important, its awakening and revitalizing. Post-shower, just remember to find a lotion to lubricate your skin in, protecting it from harsh winds, and dry heating (see below). Then be sure to find a facial moisturizer that works for your skin type, below are moisturizers suitable for different skin types, test out the one that fits yours! Also, do not forget to wear sunblock! The temperature may be low, but Montreal sun is often glaring with UV indices greater than 4. That combined with chilling winds creeping through your sleeves, and harsher ones slapping your face, you want to be sure to keep your face protected! You might even go as far as wrapping a blanket scarf around your face!

Not only is it important to treat your face, but also the skin on the rest of your body! After massaging lotions into your skin, be sure to wear, socks, hats, and gloves to keep these parts of your body covered when outdoors, preventing them from harsh exposure to the cold climate. When returning indoors, keep small travel sized tubes handy for top-ups, no one likes scaly hands! Also consider carrying around a lip balm if you find your lips cracking.

Night Regimen
Some people swear by steaming their faces, and others swear by a multitude of serums, oils, eye creams, and other products to prepare for their beauty sleep. One thing for sure is to be consistent. Always remember to take off your makeup and wash your face, and if you worked out, taking a bath to soothe your muscles or a shower is a must. In the meantime, if you like moisture in the air (although some people cannot tolerate it), consider getting a humidifier. One that you can add essential oils to for an aroma therapy effect is even better! Now, after cleaning comes the caring process. Be sure to find products that work for your skin type. A great regimen to follow every night is: cleanse, tone, (serums/oils), moisturize. A few times a week you can even put on a hydrating mask. Below are a few essentials that can work on all skin types, even sensitive ones!
