Inherit the Wind: A Review

By Alexandra Heim
November 25, 2012 - 5:15pm

Rather than attending my normal music endeavours this week, I decided to change things up and attend a play put on by McGill’s very own players theater. For the latter two weeks of November, the Players Theater will be performing an adaptation of Robert E. Lee’s Inherit the Wind. The play, which is an American classic of drama, is based upon the famous Scopes Monkey trial, which debates the teaching of Evolution in a small, Southern town in the early 20th century. READ MORE

Fourth Year Diaries: Holiday Cheers

Although it feels like Christmas and a break from all of this work is years and year away, the holiday season is just around the corner!  While I’m sure all of you collegiettes are busy writing papers and studying for finals, there is always time to get together with your best girlfriends and celebrate the Christmas season with some cocktails!  In my second year at McGill my roommates and I decided to make some drinks that we had found online to take a break from all of our studying.  Two out of three drinks were pretty disgusting (a word of advice—never make an alcoholic beverage with milk in it) but the memory of that night still has the four of us laughing years later.  Recently I’ve been in Pinterst and discovered some tasty looking drinks that I...

What Fall Shows Are You Watching?

McGill students love television, or so I think as my friends and I have another three-hour conversation about the work of Dan Harmon and debate over the comedic ties between Arrested Development and Community. Everyone I know has at least one favourite show currently on television. People who watch TV live vicariously through their beloved characters, sometimes so much so that they can momentarily forget that Ben and Leslie are actually Adam Scott and Amy Poehler and will in fact not be inviting them to their wedding -- well, except if there is a wedding episode. Fall is a time of expectation, possibility, and even frustration for television lovers as TV is a fickle mistress. READ MORE

A Scary Good Time

By Alexandra Heim
November 9, 2012 - 12:02am

Halloween in Montreal never seems to disappoint, especially if you are a McGill student. With the plethora of events, concerts, and parties there is something going on for just about every person.  SSMU kicked off the Halloween festivities last Thursday with it’s annual 4 Floors party.  Having each of the four floors decorated to Halloween perfection and accompanied by a different DJ, partygoers were able to freely bounce from floor to floor and enjoy a change of scenery. The great thing about 4 Floors is that its one heck of a party, its at McGill, and its with McGill students, making it an interesting and fun way to meet people. READ MORE

Fourth Year Diaries: Beauty Blogs

November 8, 2012 - 12:49am

Happy November, McGill Collegiettes! Hopefully papers and midterms are winding down for all of you, and even if they aren’t, that you’ve found some time to yourself to procrastinate and relax. One of my favourite things to do when I’m taking a break from studying is to watch beauty videos on YouTube or to read nail/makeup blogs. I thought that I’d share some of my favourite video channels and blogs with you ladies, in case any of you are looking to spice up your own nail and makeup routines! READ MORE

Recipe Hunting

By Elizabeth Ten-Hove
November 4, 2012 - 3:31pm

Unless your parents were particularly studious when it came to avoiding the kitchen, you probably had at least a few cookbooks floating around your house growing up. Maybe it was just one or two tried-and-trues—The Joy of Cooking, or The New Basics Cookbook. Maybe it was a whole shelf full of colourful titles from the All Around the World Cookbook to Zen Vegetarian Cooking. Or, maybe it was a handwritten notebook full of the recipes your family has made and loved over the years. READ MORE

Happy midterm season, McGill collegiettes! Hopefully papers and midterms are finally starting to wind down for most of you, or are at least coming to a brief pause... just in time for you to take a breather and think about everyone student’s favorite holiday: Halloween! While I am sure, for many of you, costume ideas have been on the back-burner for quite some time, I have been trying on ears and masks for a month! For those of you who aren’t quite as eager as I am, I’ve prepared a list of last minute costume shops that you can hit up this week before dressing up and letting loose (finally!) this weekend. New City Gas: The New Heart of Dance

By Alexandra Heim
October 25, 2012 - 10:48am

In the spirit of what I heard was one killer performance by Calvin Harris, rather than reviewing a concert, I choose to review a venue. A venue that is huge, new, and utterly spectacular. That venue, is New City Gas, the new and improved concert veue for all things electronic. READ MORE
