Fourth Year Diaries: Valentine's Drinks

By Carli McDonald
January 29, 2013 - 5:25pm

Happy February collegiettes! While this second month of the year means we are one step closer to graduation, and out of this frigid winter season, it also means that we must face the dreaded day filled with chocolate, hearts, and cupid: Valentine’s Day. I am sure that many of you lovely ladies have a special someone to spend this day with, and while my date for the evening isn’t of the male variety, I can’t wait to spend the night drinking with my roommate. Sitting at home wallowing in our single status may be a little too Bridget Jones-y for my taste, and this is why I’ve made a list of fun spots to visit on Valentine’s Day night.   Candi Bar READ MORE

Fourth Year Diaries: Second Semester

By Carli McDonald
January 16, 2013 - 3:59pm

Welcome back collegiettes, and for those of you in fourth year, happy last semester at McGill!  While it is easy to get caught up in thinking about upcoming assignments  -- especially after receiving all of our syllabi -- and the daunting prospect of doing work for the first time in weeks, there are also many other events in Montreal to look forward to!  Second semester, although snowier than the first, always offers events that embrace the cold as we patiently wait for the first days of spring.  I’m looking forward to three upcoming events in particular:   Igloofest (http://www.igloofest.ca/) READ MORE

Winter Concert Guide

By Alexandra Heim
January 14, 2013 - 5:03pm

The time has arrived again for school to commence as everyone returns from winter break. Montreal, though ridden with snow, nevertheless encourages concert-goers to brave through undesirable weather and find an enjoyable night out. With a little more than three months to survive before summer breezes through, everyone should begin to fill up their calendars -- especially since some of the most explosive artists of their respective music scenes will be making the trek up north. Between now and April, there is a diverse plethora of concerts to see. Listed below are what are predicted to be some of the most popular and exciting concerts of the winter semester. Hopefully, each of these suggestions gives someone something to look forward to!  ...

Let's Make Merry!

By Eugina Gelbelman
December 13, 2012 - 12:32am

As every student has been chanting for the past few weeks, its that time of the year again where you feel like the weight of the world is crushing you and you're awaiting the moment after that last exam or paper as if you're little orphan Annie waiting for the sun to come out tomorrow. Its also the holiday season so its completely unfair that everything should suck when you're obviously meant to be hanging up jaunty lights in your apartment, cooking festive meals, making snowmen and just generally being a part of the promised joy and mirth of the moment. Well here I am telling you there is laughter and light, well maybe not light, to be found in the darkness. Take a comedy break! Here is the newest and funniest material of some of the best stand ups...

Fourth Year Diaries: Christmas Cookies

By Carli McDonald
December 10, 2012 - 12:40pm

Happy December, McGill collegiettes! With just about two weeks left until the break, its hard not to get excited about the holiday season!  I cannot believe how quickly this first semester has gone by; it feels like frosh was just last week. Although exam season is always stressful, I enjoy spending time with my roommate and friends remembering all the great memories from the past semester. Another fun way to unwind with friends after a stressful day at the library is over cookies and conversation (or gossip!), so I’ve done a bit research on Pinterest for recipes. Enjoy some of these Christmas cookie recipes below (I tried to pick ones that wouldn’t take too long) and start getting excited about the fast-approaching the holiday season!...

Trap at SAT

By Alexandra Heim
December 7, 2012 - 12:50am

Last Saturday, November 24, featured one of the most exciting and up and coming DJs in what is referred to as the “trap” music scene, Baauer. Headlining for Araabmuzik, Baauer played one killer of a set at SAT. Trap music might have been around for a few years, but it is just now beginning to truly spearhead itself in the electronic dance scene. What makes trap music infectious is that it comes from its very interesting and familiar sound. Trap takes very hip-hop-esque drumbeats but beautifully combines them with the sort of electronic sound seen in dubstep or moombahton, or even a concoction of both. Trap satisfies those who really love a great hip-hop track, but have the urge and desire to dance. READ MORE

Apple-Cinnamon Granola

By Elizabeth Ten-Hove
November 27, 2012 - 5:42pm

You open your eyes and squint blearily at the clock. Ten seconds later, your feet have hit the floor and you are running all over your apartment, madly gathering notebooks and pencils and odd articles of clothing. You slept in a bit, and 8:35 is alarmingly near. In the scramble, what do you do about breakfast? Skip it? No, because you have back-to-back classes until 1:30, and the last thing you need with exams coming up is a blood sugar crash. Skip class? Equally unthinkable! Bag packed, you calmly nosh a quick bowl of homemade granola, put on your coat, and make it to school in time to slide into your seat just as your professor is starting her lecture.  READ MORE
