The Perfect Playlists for Finals Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

At this time of year, with finals set to start any day now, chances are you’ll be able to find McGill students studying for exams at locales far and wide. Whether plugged into their laptop fervently typing out notes at McLennan or calmly and quietly thumbing through a text at a cafe in Mile End, students spend hours on end cramming for their final exams. For most students, the best way to spice up an otherwise monotonous studying routine is with music. Everyone has different music tastes that complement their study habits, and students may sometimes spend as much time studying as they do finding the perfect playlist to study to. If you’re tired of scrolling through pages and pages of “study” playlists that only last for 20 minutes, don’t fear. Here is a list of some of the best playlists to study to, that will hopefully last the length of your all-nighter.

Classical:

“Classical for Studying” on Songza

“Energetic Classical” on Songza

“Finals” on 8tracks

Fun Fact: Researchers conducted a study that showed that students who listen to classical music while studying scored, on average, 12% higher on their math exams.

Electronic:

“Eargasmic Studying” on 8tracks

“Fit Brain Volumes I, II, III” on 8tracks

If classical music isn’t your thing but studying with lyrics is distracting, give electronic music a try!

Throwback:

“Bar Rock Sing-Alongs” on Songza

“Songs to Raise Your Kids To” on Songza

“00s Sing-Alongs” on Songza

If the music of today just isn’t doing it for you, then throw it back as far as it pleases you.

Current Songs:

“Today’s Biggest Hits” on Songza

If you have a particular favourite artist of the moment, you can also automatically generate a playlist of all of their songs on Vevo off of Youtube.

Indie/Folk/Covers:

“Acoustic Versions of Pop Songs” on Songza

“Indie Morning” on Songza

“There is a hole in my heart where you used to be” on 8tracks

Hip Hop/Rap:

“Good for the Soul” on 8tracks

“Fashion Killas” on Songza

Ultimately, whatever music you find works best for you is a playlist worth keeping around. With that being said, good luck during finals season everyone! I wish you all the best.
