8 Things to Look Forward to in Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

Although it seems like we are stuck in eternal winter here in Montreal, I promise you that spring will be here before you know it. In the mean time, here are a few things to look forward to!

1. The Weather

Although the most obvious, it’s also the most exciting! The snow will slowly start to melt and you won’t have to walk outside dreading the cold wind or treacherous ice. We will finally be able to see the sidewalks again and you’ll no longer not have an excuse to explore Montreal

2. Outfits

Say goodbye to puffy winter jackets and heavy duty sweaters! As the weather starts to get warmer, the clothing starts to get lighter. No more thermal layers or thick wooly scarves. It’s that time of year for a light weight jacket and capris! Also it’s finally time to wear white clothes again!

3. Shoes

Switch those winter boots for a pair of lighter ones. If we’re lucky enough maybe the odd sandal here and there. It’s also an excuse to get a pedicure if the toes are making an appearance.

4. Flowers

As the weather gets warmer and the snow starts to melt, we start to see signs of life again. Montreal has the most beautiful landscaping when it comes to potted plants and flowers surrounding the apartments or streets. Also, McGill has exquisite floral decor that lines the pathways to classes. Flowers make everything seem brighter and one more step closer to summer.

5. Open Windows

We’re always to bundled up during winter and getting from one place to the other is often done as quickly as possible so as to avoid being outside. As the temperatures rise you can start to let fresh air fill your apartments and let the stale winter air out.

6. OAP

Absolutely every McGillian looks forward to the Open Air Pub that is set up by the engineering students at the beginning and at the end of the year. It’s a sure sign that winter is behind us and marks the first event that we can celebrate outside.

7. Outdoor Markets

It’s that time of year when fruits and vegetables are fresher than ever! This means that farmers markets start to pop up and at places such as Jean Talon the outdoors section of the market reopens.

8. Longer Days

Finally the days feel longer and more productive. Most importantly you no longer have to walk back from classes in the dark!

Keep warm during the next few weeks and just remember that the winter will end…eventually!
