5 Words of Wisdom for Freshmen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

1. This isn’t high school.

For all the smarty-pants out there who could study the night before in high school and ace everything. Don’t try it here. You probably will anyway, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

2. Four years is not the deadline.

Not everyone finishes their bachelors degree in four years. It’s okay to not take five classes every semester or to change your program even after a couple years in.

3. Students are broke.

You’re already spending most of your money on tuition. So try not to spend what little you have left on overpriced cafeteria food. Learn to cook. Your momma can’t hold your hand forever.

4. Making the best of your experience

Studying isn’t everything, find a balance. Yes, good grades are important, but so is taking the time to go out with friends, finding time for you, and sleeping.

5. Adderall won’t save you.

If for some reason you have not followed the first tip, Adderall is not the best solution. Not mentioning the side effects, chances are you’ll spend hours browsing Facebook aimlessly instead of studying.
