Meet Dana Jackson ’18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marywood chapter.

Meet Dana Jackson `18

Name: Dana Jackson

Graduation Year: May 2018

Major: Theatre with a minor in History

Hometown: Dunmore, PA

Her Campus (HC): “Thanks for being here with us today Dana. So, to get started, what are you involved in on campus?”

Dana Jackson (DJ): “I’m the President of Marywood Players, and I do a lot of work throughout the theatre department.”

HC: “What is it like being the president of the Marywood Players?”

DJ: “It’s a great opportunity because I have more of a say in what we as the players accomplish throughout the semester. I’m planning on incorporating more involvement from the group as a whole into club decisions. We’re going to have a lot of fun this year!”

HC: “What do the players have coming up, that we should look forward to?”

DJ: “We are currently working on our main stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire (October 6th and 7th!) and we are in the process of planning at least one more Black Box production this semester.”

HC: “Tell me a little bit more about Streetcar and your involvement.”

DJ: “In the show I play a prostitute (I was not typecast, I swear!) but I also hold several tech positions in the show. I am the production Dramaturg which means I’ve put together packets of information about the time period and setting for the rest of the cast and crew, which ties in well with being a history minor. I’m also the Assistant Stage Manager (only on Wednesdays) and the Wardrobe Assistant. Streetcar is set in 1947 and it’s a classic, so many people have read it or seen the movie and I think we are going to get a great turnout. Come to the show!”

HC: “Since you are from around Scranton, what made you choose Marywood?”

DJ: “My mother made me. I wanted to go literally anywhere else but as soon as freshman orientation started I realized that as Mother Gothel says in Tangled “Mother knows best.” I ended up loving it here.”

HC: “What has been your favorite experience at Marywood?”

DJ: “My favorite experience at Marywood has been the ensemble mentality that the theatre program has. Everyone really works together well.”

HC: “What is your favorite place to eat around Scranton?”

DJ: “Italo’s, it’s in South Side.”

HC: “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”

DJ: “That’s a great question. I changed my major from theatre education to theatre just last semester, so I’m kind of still floating around confused. The future is very open right now. I’m a member of Local 329 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees so I’ll probably still be doing that in 5 years, who knows.”

HC:” What is something people do not know about you?”

DJ: “For my birthday I bought myself three Animal Crossing amiibo cards of my favorite villagers from Ebay. One of them is a squirrel named Poppy. I love squirrels. Sometimes I follow them around campus if I don’t have somewhere to be.”

HC: “Okay, last question, Dunkin or Starbucks?”

DJ: “Dunkin!”
