5 Pieces (For All Body Types) That You Need in Your Closet This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marymount chapter.

Sun gets hotter, nights get longer, music gets louder, and fashion gets fiercer! It’s that time of year again, the most wonderful time of the year! Yep you guessed it: SUMMER! Every year when summer rolls around, it can either be accompanied by squeals of delight, or groans of: “Great, now the whole world gets a full view of what I’ve been trying to hide all winter.” There’s always that one girl who can’t wait to show off EVERYTHING that she’s got, and then there’s girls who dread the thought of shopping for clothes that are fun, yet still keep certain areas covered. When shopping for summer clothes, it’s important to find pieces that are fun and flirty, but still flattering to your body type. Included in this article are 5 pieces from various stores that will flatter virtually all body types, best accessorized with confidence and a tan!

1. A Pretty Lace Flounce Dress

($32.80 at Forever 21)

What we love about this pastel dress from Forever 21 is that it’s not only SUPER versatile, it’s a piece that would be extremely flattering on a wide range of body types. The top part cuts off at the natural waist, creating a shape for a less curvy girl. At the same time, the top portion adds a pretty feminine detail for curvier girls and hides all sorts of problem areas, whereas a bandage-type dress would accentuate them.

2. A Breezy Palazzo Pant

($19.99 at Target)

The great thing about these pants is that they are so airy and comfortable for the hot weather and a great alternative to the booty short. They literally are a chic version of a pajama pant. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Loud prints only look good on skinny girls, right?” Wrong! The downward diamond-shape pattern of these is going to create the illusion of elongated legs and look amazing! These flatter all body types and since certain pairs, like these, can be worn high waisted, it creates a nice definition and shape.

3. A Cool Kimono

($19.95 at H&M)

In the past, kimonos were only worn by the incredibly daring fashionistas…or Mulan. Now they’re on trend in very wearable styles like this black and white tribal print one from H&M. What’s so fantastic about kimonos is that they can be worn with virtually EVERYTHING and the flowey-ness/baggy-ness is extremely forgiving. In the summer, these look super cute paired with shorts and a plain top, as pictured above. You could also pair this with a cute maxi dress and some bold jewelry. Cool, effortless, and figure-friendly! What more could a girl want??

4. A Chic Jumpsuit

($140.00 at White House | Black Market)

Although they may be a nuisance when one has to use the bathroom, jumpsuits are super on trend right now. They are incredibly comfortable while looking really POLISHED and CHIC. This black, keyhole jumpsuit from White House | Black Market is going to look very flattering on the short, tall, skinny, and curvy. The keyhole neckline creates just the right amount of detail, perfect for girls who aren’t digging the strapless trend, while the belt at the natural waist cinches you in perfectly.

5. An Angelic Top that Shows Just the Right Amount of Skin

($25.99 at Macy’s

This top from the Jessica Simpson line at Macy’s does cutouts the RIGHT WAY! The universally flattering V-neck combined with the interesting sleeve is super girly and summery. The top falls nicely, covering any kind of midsection insecurities and the cutouts at the shoulders are perfect for the girl who does not really like her arms but still wants to show some skin.
