Prince Frederick Hall- The Ritz Carlton of South Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Most have you have noticed by now that dorms at UMD are named after counties, and Prince Frederick Hall’s name is fitting, as this residence hall is fit for royalty.

My friend gave me a tour of Prince Frederick and before I even walked in I couldn’t stop my jaw from dropping.

The residence hall is seven stories and houses 462 students in a mix of singles, doubles and four-person semi-suites, according to the Department of Resident Life.

Prince Frederick Hall offers all of the same amenities as Oakland Hall on North Campus, but the biggest difference is the option of gender-neutral housing.

Mirroring the set up of Oakland, the halls alternate between men’s rooms and women’s rooms, or gender-neutral rooms. However, the biggest addition to Prince Frederick is the gender-neutral bathroom on each floor. There are also the traditional restrooms and even private restrooms in some rooms.

Here are some of the best and coolest amenities:

1. Multipurpose rooms/classrooms with projectors, desks, and chairs

2. 24-hour service front desk

3. Personal mailboxes in the lobby

4. Study rooms and lounges on each floor

5. Separate trash/recycle room on each floor

6. Laundry room (washers and dryers) on each floor

7. Full kitchen on first floor

8. Barbeque grill outside on patio

Some great amenities not pictured:

Interior storage for bikes

Handicap accessible rooms on each floor

Air conditioning available year-round

Wired and wireless internet access
