By Amanda Ziadeh
March 4, 2012 - 7:44am

It’s unusual to think about patriotic clothes being the center of a runway a little before New York City’s Fashion Week. However, with presidential elections near, some fashion designers decided to take campaigning into their own hands.

On Feb. 8, a project by fashion designers called “A Runway to Win” took place in New York City in support of President Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign.  According to Vogue Magazine, a long-time supporter of Obama, actress Scarlett Johansson, hosted and editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine Anna Wintour and Obama for America campaign manager Jim Messina co-hosted the event. By Morgan Billington
February 28, 2012 - 12:23pm

The 84th Academy Awards were off to a smashing start as tuxedo-clad actors and glamorously gowned actresses started arriving on the red carpet on Sunday evening. The night’s newsmakers were Octavia Spencer of “The Help”, Meryl Streep of “The Iron Lady,” and Sacha Baron Cohen?

Yes, you heard correct. The comedian was in full uniform and full character as “Admiral General Aladeen” from his movie, “The Dictator,” when he arrived on the Oscar’s red carpet. In his hands, he held an urn of what Cohen claims to be Kim Jong II’s ashes. READ MORE

With spring approaching and the final 2011-2012 school year semester among us, it’s getting harder to stay focused with summer in mind. However hard it may be, nothing is harder than trying to stay on task with graduation a short three months away.

Senioritis is spreading, and it’s only a matter of time before all University of Maryland seniors expecting to graduate in May feel their own little piece of this epidemic. READ MORE

Cash-strapped college students love bargains. Finding high-quality merchandise for a steal can seem daunting, but it is not impossible. Here are some tips to help navigate the sea of deals for a stylish find.

Sale Rack Attack

Vanquish the idea that nothing chic ends up on sale. Some of the greatest staples are located in the 50 percent off racks. “Basic black T-shirts are a staple wise buyers load up on in the discount aisles,” according to InStyle’s article, “Shop Smart Every Time.

Sometimes a beloved item will make its way into the sale section if a shopper has patience. “If you see something and there is a lot of it, give it time,” notes UMD sophomore biology major Taylor Rogers. “It could be discounted later...

If there is one thing I've come to realize in my 19 years of existence, it’s that if you like someone you should give yourself a chance and go for it! But you have to be sure that they’re available (not seeing anyone), of course. We are all aware of the signs that signify whether someone is interested in us: the staring, their inclination to always want to be near you, them finding ways to talk to you and the list goes on. But what stops a person from making the first move is the fear of rejection. READ MORE

From Saturday morning cartoons, Disney channel movies, and Nick at Night, television in the 90’s was free from reality shows and laden with childhood memories. 90’s shows were entertaining but they also had plenty of lessons to be learned from them; I have decided to pick out a few of the classics, and see what lessons would still be applicable today. 1.     Sister, Sister

When you begin each semester, you have a chance to completely revamp your lifestyle and alter your college career for the better. So what are you planning to do with such a life-changing opportunity? Yeah, we all know that most of us students will half-heartedly continue to write papers at the last minute, put off going to the gym for just another day, talk about how fun that club would be if you ever actually went and sulk about not having friends in any of your classes or dorms.
