We always hear stories about college students starting businesses like newspapers or crafting bows, or inventing new things on the side of their busy college life. But, I’m sure you’ve never heard of a story like this one!

It was a typical day in College Park, Maryland. Amanda Silpe headed to her bedroom that she shared with Michelle Schwartz . You would have never guessed what she would soon see. Opening the door, standing in the center of her room was a naked girl being sprayed down with what looked like a fake tan by her roommate. However if you know Michelle, the extraordinary is totally expected.  Michelle is an outgoing, crazy, and free spirited girl who loves glitter, the color pink, and cosmetics. There is never a dull moment with Michelle. Most recently,  Michelle Schwartz started a spray tanning business in the comfort of her own room, Princess Tans by Michelle.

What are you involved in here on campus? Alpha Epsilon Phi

How did you come up with this idea?  My passion for spray tanning began about 5 years ago with my first job at a Tanning Salon. After working there for a few months I was trained to be a professional spray tan artist. I got started with my own business of Princess Tans by Michelle about one month ago because I was always getting compliments on my tan, then my sorority sisters asked me to spray tan them and after doing a million sprays I was like why not make it a business.

Have you had any customers yet? Yes I have spray tanned over 50 women since I began Princess Tans by Michelle. I have about 12 girls that I spray tan on a weekly bases! I become very close to my clients and I turn into almost their shrink :) I definitely do my best to make sure every client is comfortable and extremely happy with their spray tan!

What are you doing to spread the word of your business? Word of mouth, email and Facebook are my three main ways of advertising. I talk to a lot of different people about Princess Tans by Michelle and I always give out my business cards! Also I send out emails to my sorority and other chapters! Lastly I update my Facebook page to promote Princess Tans by Michelle.

How do you balance schoolwork, a social life in a sorority, and your new business? I always find a good balance between all these things, although I am always crazy busy, I somehow always make it work and know were my priorities should be.

What is your dream job? My dream job is to own my own cosmetics line :) Princess Tans by Michelle can be a good start up to my future aspirations!
