Cute holiday décor ideas for your dorm or apartment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

You’ve already survived midterms and are already sluggish from Thanksgiving Break, and now you just need that one last push to finish finals. So here are some cute holiday décor ideas for your dorm or apartment to lift your mood and keep your spirits high!

String Lights

Starting with the most obvious, string lights instantly make your space more warm and whimsical. They’re easily accessible from Target, Wal-Mart, and Amazon, and a lot of collegiettes already have them in their living space.

Throw pillows

You can buy throw pillows with familiar holiday phrases such as, “Baby it’s cold outside” or “Let it snow”. Or if you’re crafty enough, you can easily make these pillows with fabric paint and stencils. Plus, compared to store-bought pillows, you can easily customize them to the colors of your room.

Faux Fur Throws

Faux fur will have your space feel so cozy and luxe, not to mention keep you warm with the sudden cold front that just arrived at UMD (Seriously, it was just 70 degrees the other day?!).

The “mini-look”

You don’t need to lug an entire Christmas tree to your room. You can still utilize holiday decorative symbols-just go mini! Tabletop trees with mini ornaments and mini stockings are just as festive.  I even went mini in my own apartment bedroom!

Hang it up

Add some drama to your room by hanging ornaments or even glue gift-wrapping paper onto cardboard circles on your ceiling or over your window. You can use tape or command hooks, depending on the material of your wall.

Gift-wrapping (wall) paper

This one is my personal favorite because it’s so customizable. You can choose any print, color, and finish that you like. Thumbtack or tape it as wallpaper or cut different prints out and use it as individual wall decals.

Washi Tape

As for washi tape, you can place it along your desk, dresser, or any furniture of your choice as a border.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, these decor ideas can work for anyone.

I hope these ideas helped! Good luck on finals (WE’RE ALMOST THERE!!!) and of course, have a happy holiday season my collegiettes!
