After a while CP can get a little bit boring. Maybe you’re not feeling the frat parties or the bars anymore. Here are 5 super fun ideas that will get you out of CP without having to go too far.
The Fillmore Silver Spring

The Fillmore always seems to have awesome bands coming to play. Gavin Degraw to Panic! At the Disco are some of the names that you can look forward to. It’s a small, quaint venue so getting an amazing view is almost guaranteed. The Fillmore is in the middle of Downtown Silver Spring which has recently undergone so much renovation and it’s filled with tons of amazing restaurants and stores and even an IMAX movie theater. It’s only a short metro ride away so be sure to check it out!
The Monuments

Having the Capital so close by is definitely something we Terps take for granted. This is the freaking Capital people! It’s home to some of the most amazing monuments and museums in our entire nation! Sure, we all know what the Washington Monument looks like (it’s the pointy one) but the weather is getting nicer and sometimes we just need a good frolic on a mall that isn’t McKeldin. Take some friends and go on a monumental (pun intended) adventure!
Bethesda Row

Bethesda is pretty much a mini-Georgetown but unlike the real Georgetown we haven’t been there a zillion times. Bethesda row is home to tons of delicious restaurants and the most unique little boutiques. It’s also got a HUGE Barnes & Noble, and let’s be honest, when was the last time you went into a bookstore? Buy some interesting books or just sit in the store reading for hours, to each her own. Once you’ve completed all your reading head on over to the Georgetown Cupcake, for those of you that truly cannot live without that Georgetown pastry experience.
The Zoo

Bring out your inner child! There’s nothing that warms a heart faster than seeing a few adorable animals performing adorable activities. The National Zoo just welcomed home a brand new baby Panda this past year whom the public voted to name Bao Bao (The name Mulan was also a contender but ultimately lost). Gather your gals and go on a date to the home of some of the most amazing creatures in our region.
Nationals/Capitals/Wizards Game
Every Terp knows that it can be a little frustrating to be a Maryland fan. Get away from all the failed attempts and poorly executed plays that our Terps make and watch another team for a change. You don’t have to worry about being disloyal to your state school because these teams represent D.C. which is pretty much Maryland anyway. Buy your tickets in advance because these games can sell out quickly and make sure to check the weather if you’re going to a Nats game because D.C. weather is after all…. D.C. Weather, completely and totally unpredictable.
