5 Reasons Why Sophomore Year is Da Bestest

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Congrats, you are no longer a lost little puppy on the big campus! Yippee!

Freshmen year was fun and all, but being another year older, and wiser, definitely has its perks.

1. You actually know where you are going.

This is huge. I was so lost my freshmen year… like so, so lost. I would leave my dorm 30 minutes early because I was deathly afraid of not being able to find the building and then not being able to find the classroom. I’m actually sweating thinking about this right now.

It was my biggest struggle and I’m still working on it, but now I at least know what it means when my class is on the “mall.” However, if you are NOT directionally challenged, you know the short-cuts and the quickest routes to class by sophomore year.

2. You have friends! Yay!

I take it back; This is huge. School is so much more fun when you finally find “your people” and best friends who will actually, as corny as it sounds, be your best friends for a lifetime. Guys included!

3. This is the last year before things get really hard and really real.

Sophomore year is the last chill year. You don’t have to get an internship and classes still aren’t too hard. You can get away with a lot, which is pretty great. So embrace it, because it’s only going to get harder.

4. You don’t have to live in the dorms.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” pretty much sums up dorm life. It was great because you had your little squad of friends who lived on your floor and you guys hung out all the time. But it was also the worst because dorms just suck; they are small, hot, annoying and you are not even exposed to half the other people who live here.

5. You feel more comfortable.

Isn’t it the best when you feel like you know what’s going on and your life is actually semi-together? Sophomore year is that comfort you missed freshmen year. You know a little more, but still not everything, which is a good thing. It’s that great feeling you get when you know you made the right choices thus far and have so much more to look forward to in your future.
