Over Christmas, I became completely obsessed with sugar scrubs and use them religiously. They smell delicious and make your skin instantaneously smooth.
What’s not to love? The price. After a while they seem to get a little expensive. Luckily, there are hundreds of DIY sugar scrubs online! (Pinterest anyone?)
Here is just one way to make your very own sugar scrub with ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen.
Ingredients:
1. Sugar
2. Baking Soda
3. Brown Sugar
4. Oatmeal
5. Melted Coconut Oil (I used Olive Oil. You can basically substitute any oil)
Step 1:
Combine 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of (ground) oatmeal (about two packets) in a large bowl. Mix it together.
Step 2:
Add 6 tablespoons of oil and mix together until completely blended.
Step 3:
Put into desired container and enjoy!
Overall, I really like this sugar scrub and will definitely be making it again! It works very well and my skin was always baby smooth over spring break. It was super easy to make. The only drawback is the olive oil. While it still has a sugar and oatmeal scent, the olive oil smell is a bit overpowering. The melted coconut oil would have eliminated this problem, but if you don’t have any or are allergic, the olive oil still works. Almond oil could be another good substitute to try.
