10 Reasons Disney World is Just as Magical When You’re a Grown-Up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

During my senior year of high school, my dad told me we were going to go to Disney world. Now, I had not been since I was in 5th grade, so about 7 years prior. I had always viewed Disney as a place for kids, where children where Mickey hats and believe they are truly meeting Cinderella. But I ended up having a fantastic trip. So, if your family is going or friends are looking for somewhere fun to go, here are reasons why Disney is a fantastic choice.

1. Food

When I was a kid, I was a very picky eater. At restaurants, I had chicken fingers or hamburgers. Every time. My palette has expanded in years past, and this time around, I had steak and pasta dishes and all foods imaginable. Think about “Disney Magic” and apply that to food. Plus, there are character dinners, and who doesn’t want to meet Mickey and Minnie while eating a delicious kabob.

2. Pictures

When I travel, I love to take pictures. Disney is no exception, and between the sites, characters, and rides, there is something to post on all of your Instagram’s.

3. Rides

If you’re are a “ride person”, like me, Disney is definitely for you. There are thrill rides, slow rides, wet rides, even animal rides. Also, every ride at Disney world has a theme, and they go all out for everyone. The Haunted Mansion had a line through “the gardens”, and had trick walls and windows prior to entering the ride. Every ride was like this, an experience instead of just a ride. And this is unparalleled to anywhere else I have been. The rides are fun, and the theme makes the line seem shorter.

4. Characters

When I was a kid, I loved characters. I had a whole autograph book, and dozens of pictures with characters. This time around, while we knew everyone was actors, I was still thrilled to meet them, and get photographed with some favorites. Various characters danced with my siblings and I, chatted, or gave high fives. It was still so magical and brought out the kid in all of us.

5. Fast Pass

Everyone at Disney world gets 3 fast passes per day, at any park. Use them sparingly, and figure it out in advance. I know we used ours on anything from Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom to Soarin in Epcot. On the last day, we only had the morning, so we used them on two cute rides and to meet Tinker Bell. It was still so useful, and made the day go by much faster. Also, some rides have “single rider” lanes, where you skip the line and the cool exhibit. I would suggest doing this if you do the ride a second time.

6. Traveling the world in one day

As a college student, I want to travel abroad, and at the Epcot World Showcase, you can! They have most of the countries the princesses are from, including Norway (Anna and Elsa), Germany (Snow White), France (Belle), and the United Kingdom (Cinderella). Each place has replicas of famous architecture, and has either a restaurant or ride, to showcase the country’s amazing qualities. It’s better than Around the World in 80 Days!

7. Extra Magic Hours

At Disney world, instead of watching Netflix or doing homework late at night, you get to explore parks, see shows specifically show at night with cool effects, and go on rides with much shorter lines. Plus, downtown Disney even has a district for those 21+, along with restaurants and shops. So even if you’re a late riser, you still can sleep in and see the parks. Plus, less kids and people will be around, so more rides and shows for you. Yay!

8. Reliving your childhood memories

For those of you who have been before, it’s just like you remember it – except the walks are shorter. You get to relive everything, and from a new perspective.

9. Hotel Beds

Hotel beds, in my opinion, are always 10X more comfortable than my own. Whether you’re sleeping or relaxing, it is amazing. Plus, the beds and rooms are often themed, so you can sleep anywhere from a rustic cabin, a princess’s bedroom, or even a Polynesian getaway. Also, you don’t have to make the beds, so at the end of the day, you can just flop down and relax, no folding required.

10. It’s the happiest place on Earth!

All in all, Disney is magical, no matter what age you are. Whether you’re a ride or food person, it is an amazing place to spend a vacation.
