Campus Celebrities: boohoo Style Squad

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

This week’s Campus Celebrities are LMU’s boohoo Style Squad representatives, Lindsey Thompson and Justine Solan. These chic celebs answered our questions about their involvement with the boohoo brand, and how they plan to make it a larger part of on-campus involvement at LMU. Here’s what they had to say:

Lindsey Thompson

  • Major: Theatre Arts
  • Minor: English Literature
  • Hometown: Frenchtown, New Jersey
  • Favorite designer: Oscar de la Renta
  • Favorite place to shop in LA: 3rd Street Promenade, Santa Monica

Justine Solan

  • Major: Communication Studies
  • Hometown: Albuquerque, NM
  • Favorite designer: Marc Jacobs
  • Favorite place to shop in LA: LF, Urban Outfitters, Free People

What is the boohoo Style Squad? How did you hear about it?

LT: The boohoo Style Squad is made up of two LMU students, a Social Media/Marketing Manager and a PR/Event Manager, who make the campus aware of the newest fashion trends from across the pond as well as distributing some awesome boohoo perks! I heard about boohoo.com two years ago while watching British beauty gurus on YouTube. After seeing Her Campus post the application to become a part of the boohoo Style Squad at LMU, I jumped at the opportunity!

JS: Boohoo Style Squad is basically made up of a social media representative and a PR rep, where the social media rep posts and keeps track of the social media pages, and the PR rep plans events on campus for Boohoo. I heard about this from a HerCampus post on Facebook.

What is your favorite part about being involved with the boohoo Style Squad?

LT: I love seeing how the boohoo Style Squad ambassadors from all the colleges (15) style the various trends – not just from America, but also from the UK! It really inspires my fashion.

JS: My favorite part about being involved in the Style Squad is getting great deals on awesome clothes.

What do you think makes LMU such an ideal school for the boohoo Style Squad’s involvement?

LT: The fact that we are in LA is a huge factor as to why LMU is ideal! Los Angeles is home to famous boutiques, fashion designers, and celebrities that we draw from to create our own style! Having a boohoo Style Squad at LMU is amazing because, on top of the LA fashion, we are receiving the latest trends from halfway across the world!

JS: LMU is an ideal school because it is in one of the trendiest cities in the US. LA is a hub for fashion and that’s definitely obvious looking at our campus.

What are your plans going forward?

LT: Since the semester is almost over, we are just going to keep promoting boohoo.com. We have some few things in the works for next semester, so keep an eye out! As far as this semester goes, we are putting on a fall fashion show Wednesday November 19th, along with the UNItiques: Fashion Club! The models will be sporting the latest trends from boohoo styled by our own LMU students. It’s a great way to showcase not only the fashion from boohoo, but the creativity of the students in the fashion club.

JS: My plan for going forward with Boohoo is to gain more followers on all of our social media platforms

What is your best advice for spreading awareness about a new organization on campus?

LT:  The best advice that I could give is to just simply promote, through social media and through other on campus organizations! Working with other clubs will be extremely beneficial to your new and upcoming organization on campus. They will help spread the word and get your organization known! Plus, it will create a strong partnership, which is key to success – feeding and working off of everyone’s ideas can help lead both organizations above and beyond their desired goals.

JS: My advice would be spread awareness through word of mouth and showing them hands on. Most of the people that get followed by the LMUBoohoo pages don’t respond to them, but if you tell them in person to check it out they become much more involved.
