The Shoes Every Fashionista Needs In Her Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LIM chapter.

As we all know, athleisure is the new wave and will most likely stick around for a while, as many are interested in health and wellness. Engaging in different activities is one thing, however looking stylish AND comfortable has always been a challenge. Louboutins are cute and all, but flat footed chicks like me can barely stand an hour in them! Expressing my taste without the pain has always been a struggle for me, as it is for most! Well, now it’s not. Trendsetters everywhere are mixing and matching different silhouettes and styles and pairing it up with sneakers. I mean come on, even this babe got it down pact.

Now the next question is where do you start??! No worries, I can help answer that!

Listed below (in no particular order) is a list of sneakers every fashionista needs in her closet. These styles have been seen on trendsetters like Cara, Kylie, Gigi, & Rihanna.

Yeezy boost 350

(@sarahwilmots)

Designed by Yeezy himself in collaboration with Adidas, the Yeezy boost 350 are a coveted footwear item. The style is completely unique, unlike any sneaker out there in the industry. Yeezys have a unique shape, almost like a spaceship around your foot (in my opinion). Nevertheless, they look amazing on! The technology that is added to the sole is the same ultra-boost technology found on the Adidas Ultra Boost, also another popular sneaker! These babies usually sell out within hours of being released and are shortly listed on eBay for thousands! If you can get your hands on a pair when the next style launches, then you better start rocking them with your favorite jeans, or even an oversized hoodie dress.

FENTY x PUMA Velvet Creepers

(@m.vibesonly)

As many fashionistas are aware, FENTY is Rihanna’s designer line. Recently, she has collaborated with Puma and developed a FENTY x Puma sneaker line, which is what the Velvet Creepers are a part of. The Velvet Creepers are super comfy and chic, especially since velvet is used to give the product texture. Textures added to designs are on trend for the upcoming seasons, and so these are definitely a must have! According to Business of Fashion, Rihanna has agreed to come on as Creative Director once again for Puma. Look out for more trendy fashion forward styles in the near future!

Reebok Classic Leather Sneakers

(_evelaura)

Hmm…these are a bit familiar? That’s because they are! Reebok has made a comeback this past fall season. As seen on brand ambassador Gigi Haddid, Reebok Classic styles have been seen on various trend influencers, bloggers, and the sort now more than ever. With nostalgia being used as design inspiration, styles from the ‘80s have shown up in the market and first and foremost on the runway. Grab yourself a pair from the iconic classic styles to the newly updated classics. Reebok is definitely here to stay for the long run!

Adidas Stan Smith

(@by.wear.art)

Within the past year, Adidas has been the hottest brand around in the athletic apparel and footwear market. It could be due to the collaboration with Kanye, and the Yeezy boost 350. Regardless, Adidas has been producing comfortable and trendy styles to stay for the long run. When it comes to Stan Smiths, I would say who doesn’t have them? This style is super popular, seen on many, and keeps being produced in different colorways. Your basic tennis shoe has been given a facelift and won’t be leaving stores anytime soon.

Adidas NMD

(@nmdhype)

It all started with the NMD OG, an all-black body with red and blue detailing and a white sole. Those NMDs sold out quick! It’s completely impossible to find them now, unless your will to pay double the price at Flight Club, however you don’t have too. Adidas has periodically launched NMD styles in a variety of colorways each month. A sneaker that is constantly on one of the top seller list, it provides comfort and slips on your foot like a sock. While wearing these, I almost forgot I had shoes on! NMDs add character to your outfit. So, if you’re looking for a pair to uplift your favorite basics, snag a pair of NMDs.

Adidas Originals Super Stars

(@atontime_import)

As it says in the name, the Superstars have made a comeback. The original style from the early Hip Hop era is now being mass produced in many different colorways. From iridescent lilac to traditional white and black stripes, these are a staple to any fashionista’s closet. Superstars have become the new neutral. You can wear them anytime with mostly any outfit. If you’re missing a basic sneaker to add to your wardrobe, Superstars are a must have!

PUMA Basket Platforms

(@titoloshop)

Inspired by the Velvet Creepers, the Basket Platforms are a close second. This style comes in multiple colorways and available in more locations. Although not designed by bad girl RiRi, you can still rock your style with this inspiration. If you missed out on the color of your choice with the Velvet Creepers, check out the Basket Platforms!

Nike Air Huarache

(@spor_ayakkabi_magaza)

A new style that was introduced last year, colorways as well as style updates have been produced. Huaraches are here to stay! The Huaraches have to probably be one of my favorite sneakers. They are so light mimicking the weight of a pillow on your foot. They slip on easily, like a sock. It’s just all together a really great sneaker. Available in so many colors and patterns, you are sure to find the pair that matches your personality.

Nike Air Max Thea

(@airmaxalways)

In case you didn’t know, Air Max day is coming up in the month of March. In honor of the event, Nike plans on launching the original Air Max 90 style in different colorways. Different from the Air Max 90s, the Air Max Theas are a little less shoe, and a little more feminine. They are essential to any fashionista’s closet for their potential to act as basics, or uplift an outfit with bright color pay off. On the plus side, they also make great running shoes!

Nike Cortez1

(@princessraylene92)

An oldie, but a goodie. The Nike Cortez1 was produced quite some time ago, but has recently been produced in new colorways. Seen on fashion trend influencer, model Bella Haddid, in the black with white check colorway, the Cortez1 is making a tremendous come back. This style has been on everyone’s shopping list, especially with all the unique colors and patterns Nike has produced in this style. Grab yourself a pair because these are definitely trending!

Adidas EQT Support ADV

(@adidasoriginals)

Launched on January 29th, the EQT Support ADV is a new version of the original EQT Support style. Like the original style, the EQT Support ADV, slip on like a sock. The difference is that this style can be worn without socks. A bit foreign to me, but I’ll take it! Adidas also launched an EQT style structured like a sandal, and has been styled without socks on exclusively for women wherever Adidas styles are sold. The EQT Support ADV came out in several color ways and will be coming out in more in the following months to come. These are a permanent style, so if interested, you should be able to grab a pair to call your own.

There you have it: a breakdown of top sneaker styles that are currently trending. Which will you get? I’m thinking about getting another pair of huaraches.
