Guide to Halloween Costumes That Require Zero Planning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lehigh chapter.

When Halloween creeps up on you and you’re left with less than an hour to put together a quick Halloween costume, refer to this list of items found in every college girl’s closet that can easily transform into a costume. Not saying any of these costumes are bound to be a stand out at any party, but let’s face it who can really come up with a jaw-dropping costume in sixty minutes or less?

Striped Shirt

Robber: Specifically a black-and-white striped shirt works best for this look, but something similar to the one pictured will work just as well. Pair a striped shirt with black leggings for the outfit portion. To accessorize any ski hat or beanie will do. For a mask, grab an old long black sock or pair of tights; then cut two slits where your eyes would line up. Lastly, grab a tote bag and cut out a money sign using paper and attach it to the tote using safety pins or tape.

Mime: Again, a black-and-white striped shirt works best for this look along with black leggings. A black hat of any kind will do the trick as well as a pair of white gloves preferably, but any light-colored glove will work fine. And assuming you’re like most girls and the idea a full face of face paint scares you, then just rock the dramatic eyeliner look and a red lip.

Plaid Flannel

Lumberjack: All you need to pull off this look is a flannel of your choice; any color will work, as well as a pair of blue jeans and brown boots. For your makeup, use bronzer or any brown makeup you already own to make your face look dirty and like you just crawled out of the forest. Put your hair in two braids and then mess it up a little or wear your hair down and add a beanie. You would look the part just by taking these steps however additional accessories include an ax which you could easily make with cardboard and if you already own suspensors, you can also add those in too.

Scarecrow: Similar to the lumberjack, all you need is a flannel, blue jeans or a denim skirt, and brown boots for the outfit. What makes this costume is the makeup; draw red circles on either cheek as blush, and then use eyeliner or any black makeup to draw stitching on either side of your mouth. If you happen to have a straw hat lying around throw that on to complete the look, but simple braids work too without the hat.

Leather Jacket

Biker Chick: For the outfit, you will need any color (black or blue) distressed jeans, as well as a graphic tee and a black leather jacket. With the outfit you can wear any Converse style sneaker or black combat boot. To accessorize add a choker, if you don’t already own one you can make the choker using a shoelace or piece of fabric. You can also add an edgy belt with spikes or metal detailing, or opt to not wear a belt. Be a little more dramatic with your makeup then you normally would by darkening your eyeliner and adding a dark lip color. Lastly add in some jewelry like rings and a pair of dark sunglasses.

Sandy from Grease: All you need is a black crop top, black leggings and of course a black leather jacket. You could go all out and wear heels like she did in the movie; Sandy wore red pumps, however black or nude heels would work just fine. If you’re not comfortable wearing heels, black boots of some sort are perfect. For accessories, wear any hoop earrings as well as adding in a belt. Additionally for authenticity you could carry around a cigarette (or a fake cigarette) just like Sandy. Lastly be dramatic with your makeup. Sandy uses blue eye shadow and has pronounced rosy cheeks so go overboard with the blush and then a red, glossy lip.
