The East Coast Uniform

By McKenzie Otus
November 18, 2012 - 8:35pm

As a freshman at Lehigh coming from the west coast, I have noticed one particular thing every girl seems to own the same unofficial uniform of the East Coast. I first became aware of this as me and about 300 other girls walked to Packard at 9:00 am on a Sunday morning for Sorority Open Houses, where every girl could be seen in jeans, boots, and a cute sweater. But I am here to talk about the predominant cold weathered stables and the memo I seemed to have missed coming from California where vineyard vines and Patagonia are about as foreign as snow is.   Here are the basics of the cute preppy east coast uniform: READ MORE

America’s Racialized Common Sense

By Brenda Martinez
November 11, 2012 - 10:39pm

“Race is the enigma of stigma. Trayvon Martin died as a victim of virtual identity” Lehigh University’s Alice Eckardt Scholar-in-Residence Program welcomed Professor William D. Hart of North Carolina Greensboro, Monday night before elections, to speak on the Trayvon Martin. How do you become aware of your own stigma? How do you get rid of a habit that is hard to acquire and hard to get rid of? Hart had to explain to his audience that stigma is not the same as a stereotype, because a stereotype is simply a bad form of generalization.  According to Hart, “We can’t function without generalizing.” Stigma is more powerful and more dangerous to our society. By Emma Rabinowitz
October 28, 2012 - 1:26pm

We've all been there, waking up on a sunday morning with last nights eyeliner smeared down your face, wearing the dress from the night before, and feeling like your liver will explode. It's college, it happens. Lehigh has the unofficial motto of being a "work hard, play hard" institution. You could totally justify going hard for three nights (and saturday morning mocos) in a row because you rocked that psych test, and got an A on your english paper. However, waking up this sunday is particularly rough. So how do you get back into the swing of things? Here are 10 ways to recover after a weekend that was a little too much fun. READ MORE

By Rebecca Langbein
October 24, 2012 - 11:33pm

No time for Breakfast? A lot of mornings I find it hard to urge myself to get out of bed early enough to get up, head to Rathbone or the UC, and grab a bite to eat before class. That extra walk, the possibility of a line, and having to be awake and dressed earlier just does not seem ideal. I have discovered, however, that there are some quick and healthy ways to eat breakfast right here in my dorm! READ MORE

Linderman Library: Sanctuary at Lehigh

By Sabrina Herbert
October 21, 2012 - 9:35pm

Linderman Library is without a doubt one of the prettiest buildings on campus. With its gothic look and high ceilings, it exudes an air of higher-learning. There is a definite consensus regarding the prime study areas, as well as the areas that are just “eh”. For one, the study rooms located on the top floor of Linderman are always the first to get snatched up. They are private rooms with a table that grants you and a few others quiet, privacy, and the ability to talk if need be. It is an excellent place to study as it minimizes the distractions caused by surrounding fellow students. In order to lock in one of these rooms on a Sunday you generally need to get to the library right when it opens, a feat for typical late-risers....
