International Women's Day - 8th March

By Victoria Riglen
March 6, 2013 - 5:06pm

International Women’s Day grew out of a time of political unrest and huge inequalities for women. The website for IWD truly outlines the struggles and huge strengths of the women who, at the time of political inequality and poor treatment, were brave enough to stand up against such treatment and ask for something to be done. International Women’s Day began officially in 1910 thanks to Clara Zetkin, a day in which women could table their thoughts and problems with the political and social situation, and for appropriate attention to be paid to work towards solving such problems. S/S 2013’s Top Trend: 90s Fashion

By Bethany Ruane
March 1, 2013 - 12:50pm

To be honest, I never thought I’d see the day when the fashion trends of my quite purposefully forgotten childhood returned to the catwalk. An era in which I saw myself rock a totally impractical inflatable backpack, tasteless hair scrunchies and a garish gymnastic leotard was not one I thought I would be revisiting.  However, ASOS are now pioneering a range suspiciously reminiscent of my old school backpack, American Apparel are bringing back the scrunchie, and our very own local vintage store Best Leeds are reviving a sports classic. By Rose Dooley
March 1, 2013 - 12:24pm

When was the last time you checked facebook? Is it on another tab on your computer as you’re reading this? Have you scrolled down your news feed in the past hour and casually liked someone status who if you saw them in the street you probably wouldn’t have even have said hello to? We all know the stereotype of the nerd sat on their computer hours on end, their eyes turning square shaped but are we all slowly becoming that person? READ MORE

Get Your Señorita On! Why You Should Love Spanish Fashion

By Francesca Selsby
February 28, 2013 - 6:45pm

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the fashion in Spain was flamenco dresses and sombreros, trust me I secretly thought the same. When I first arrived in Spain I was confused why the majority of locals were walking round in 30º heat in coats and a lot of beige, while I was sporting shorts, t-shirts and anything that would stop me from melting in the sun. Talk about culture shock! However five months & a hell of a lot of shopping later, I have discovered the most amazing Spanish stores and fashion on the high street that the UK can only try to imitate. READ MORE

Leeds Live Lounge Review, 13.02.2013

By Amy Adejokun
February 25, 2013 - 10:16am

Leeds Live Lounge was set to be a perfect, chilled mid-week event that I had been looking forward to for a while. After a busy start to the week with lectures, reading and homework, a relaxed gig in the Library Pub was just what I needed. Upon arrival, the atmosphere was lively and friendly, with an energetic crowd of about 200 people laughing, chatting and having a good time. The candle-lit tables subtly acknowledged the pre-Valentine’s Day date. Having only heard Stray Arrows and The Undercovers before, I had no pre-conceptions about what the event was going to be like.
