Melissa Fenlon – Light Entertainment Editor at LSTV

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

Leeds Student TV is an award winning station that broadcasts weekly programmes live from Leeds University Union.  Her Campus Leeds spoke to their new Light Entertainment Editor, Melissa Fenlon, to find out more about the society’s plans for this year…

Hi Mel, tell us a bit about your role with LSTV this year…

This year, I’m lucky enough to be part of the LSTV committee. Working as part of a team with the Head of Entertainment, my job is to help create and edit the weekly entertainment programme, On Campus.

How did you come to get involved with LSTV? Which projects have you been involved with this year?

I became part of LSTV during fresher’s week. As the society that appealed to me the most I went along and I was persuaded to take part in the presenter search competition. Somehow I impressed and managed to become part of a weekly presenting duo for the broadcasts. Therefore that was one of my largest projects, as part of the society. I have also worked with other members of the society to create music videos and parody programmes, all good fun really!

Do you have any big plans for the society next year?

In terms of my role in the society, myself and the Head of Entertainment have plans to reinvent the entertainment programme and make it more exciting for the University audience. We just want to build on the already amazing material the society produces!

How do you find your role fits in alongside your studies?

LSTV is easy to fit around my studies, as it’s a place to escape any workload I get and relax doing other things I enjoy.

Is the experience useful for your course and chosen career path?

As my course is Broadcast Journalism, LSTV is very useful for my future career plans. I’ve learnt things that have proved useful in practical sessions before others due to LSTV. Student television, radio and newspapers are also regarded highly by potential employers, which is incredibly useful for the future!

Finally, what would you say to any Her Campus Leeds readers thinking about getting involved with LSTV?

I’d say come along! We welcome anyone and everyone. You can create whatever you like, however you like. LSTV made my first year at uni completely!

To get involved with LSTV this year, visit them at the Media Freshers Fair in the Riley Smith Hall on Monday 17th September, from 10am-4pm, to chat to the team, or visit www.lstv.co.uk
