Escape the City: Harrogate

By Charlotte Prince
November 4, 2012 - 1:57pm

Leeds is a huge city and the possibilities of things to do here is endless. But sometimes it can be overwhelming, especially if home to you is a small town. A reason that makes Leeds so wonderful is the fact that it’s so easy to escape its hectic-ness. Forget the saying, ‘it’s grim up north’, because whoever came up with that phrase has obviously never been to the beautiful spa-town of Harrogate. That time of year has come around again: the pumpkins, the ghosts, the pirates, the inevitable debate about whether or not Halloween should be celebrated at all but, in general, students tend to take the approach that Halloween (although perhaps perceived by some as a little ridiculous) is just one of those hilarious opportunities to celebrate, and so they should! However, as with all events, there is always going to be a slight punishment to the purse but Halloween shouldn’t have to give your bank account a fright. Here are the Top 10, cheap-o home made costumes. 1. A Bunch of Grapes FIRSTLY, decide whether you’re green or purple grapes. Then, you will need: READ MORE

October 28, 2012 - 11:27am

That time of year has come around again, time to dress up as who or what you want, and be horrifying, risqué or a mixture of the two. With loads of great Halloween events going on around Leeds this year, it’s time to start thinking about what to wear, and this year you’re in luck…. The gothic look has made a serious comeback this year, the high street has morphed into a dark pit of lace and PVC, so if your looking for the perfect balance between Mean Girls and Mortitia Adams, look no further. Costumes can be expensive, with costumes from fancy dress shops coming in at about £20-30. So why not instead of spending your student loan on ready-made costume , craft yourself a scarily stylish outfit that you can wear again throughout the season....
