New Music: Rihanna – Kiss It Better

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Rihanna’s latest release ANTI is just that. It’s clear this time around, Rihanna wasn’t focused on making “hit” records or having people twerk in clubs to her music. This album is anti-conformity, and anti-whatever Rihanna thought people expected of her. A standout from ANTI ,”Kiss It Better”, comes early on the tracklist. The song is the third on the album, right after the hypnotic ode to smoking weed aptly named “James Joint“, co-written by James Fauntleroy. “Kiss It Better” is about wanting to go back to your ex lover even though they’re totally wrong for you. Rihanna sings that she’s aware of the danger of rekindling this relationship, but as the song says, “Who cares when it feels like crack?” The song does indeed have an addictive quality to it and a sexy 80s guitar riff that sets the mood for the entire song.
