How to Keep in Touch With Your College Friends Over The Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Once again it is time to pack up your mattress pad and Twilight posters, bid your friends adu and go back home. When you’re home between summer jobs and hanging out on the beach it is important to spend time with your hometown friends. However, going to college means that you probably built a lot of friendships with people who you should also stay in contact with. This may seem like a lot of juggling, but if you start to miss your college friends here are the tools you will need to keep in touch with them.

Your Cell
Text messages are also such an easy way to stay in touch. It’s so easy to mention a simple funny thing to your friend without having to type up a wall post. Sometimes you do not have time for a long conversation so texting your friends some thing nice every once in a while lets them know that you are thinking of them.

Your Laptop
Emails are another speedy way of keeping in touch. A lot might happen to you during the week and if you send a weekly update to all your friends about what has been going on in your life they will greatly appreciate it. This is also a convenient way of making sure all of your friends get the same information and you do not have to keep repeating the same stories.

Skype
Skype has also revolutionized how we can communicate with our friends. I’m not generally one to make “skype dates” but I do often have voice and/or video chats with friends from school during the week or on the weekend. The voice chats are great because it’s like talking on the phone, without nasty long distance fees, and the video chats really give you an opportunity to share how you’re doing.

Facebook
Probably the best way to stay in touch with your university or college friends is through social networking sites, especially Facebook. You can easily see what all your friends are up to through news feeds, status updates, etc. It may seem a bit stalkerish, but that way it is like you are still in tune with their lives even though you are not near. Facebook can also be a great conversation starter because you can simply comment on someone’s pictures or activity and initiate a dialogue.

Pen & Paper
Yes it is slow, but nothing will compare to getting a letter in the mail and sitting somewhere comfortable to read it. Yes, it takes time to write and send, but who doesn’t love receiving something on cute stationary in their mailbox. When was the last time you received a letter? I’m sure you’d appreciate one whenever and so will your friends! Snail mail is also the only way of sending presents to friends over the summer months.
