12 Reasons We Swipe Left on Tinder

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

1. Picture with a Dead Animal If you have a picture holding up a 20 lb fish that you just caught or deer horns, we will swipe left. It’s fine if you hunt or fish, but don’t make it your picture on Tinder. You won’t be catching girls if you keep this up.

2. Snapchat filter For some reason, seeing a guy on Tinder with the puppy filter is so off putting. Snapchat is really fun and we all use it, but save those filters for your friends.

3. The Girl in Your Photo Looks Like She’s Your Girlfriend/Ex Girlfriend Why would seeing a guy with a girl that looks like his ex make anyone want to swipe right? We don’t understand this, but so many guys do it. It looks like you’re cheating on your current girlfriend or you’re not over your ex. Either way, pictures like this are a mistake.

4. Large Group PhotosSeeing a photo of you and 8 of your bros gives us that same feeling of when you’re walking alone and see a big group of teenagers coming toward you. We cross the street and we also swipe left.

5. No Bio  The bio is really important on Tinder. Whether it’s a joke or something random, the last thing you want to do is leave it blank. Without a bio, you’re implying that your good looks are reason enough to swipe, that you’re not interested in getting to know someone past a physical level, or that you’re a sketchy person. We need more info!

6. Really Long Bio Yes, we realize we just said bios are a must, but please DON’T write an essay. If your bio is more than a large paragraph, you’re taking this app way too seriously and should try E-harmony.

7. Sexually Explicit Bio For us, this is an automatic swipe left. But good for you for being honest?

8. Holding a Gun What would possess you to choose the photo of you holding a gun as your FIRST photo on Tinder? We’re sure there’s some gun lovers/ NRA dating app out there, so get off Tinder and go find it. Even if your job requires you to hold guns, putting a photo like that on a dating app is just weird.

9. Not Enough Photos Having just one or two photos makes you look like you’re hiding something, and we don’t want to find out what that is.

10. Bio is All About the GymIf your entire bio is talking about the amount of hours you spend at the gym and how much you lift, we are not interested. The bio section is a place to tell us what we can’t figure out by looking at you.

11. Cigarettes, Smoke rings, Vape Tricks, Etc No matter how hot you are, girls are not into a man that smokes a pack a day, especially if you’re flaunting it in your pics on Tinder. Also, if you smoke weed so much that you feel the need to put it in your bio, you either smoke too much or you’re a poser. As far as vaping, it’s about as cool as an adult riding a bike with a helmet.

12. All of Your Photos Look Like Different People No but really, who are you? It’s cool to take pictures from different angles, but it’s a deal breaker when we can’t tell what you actually look like.

Guys, if you’re reading this, take our advice. Happy swiping!
