12 Quotes From Pride and Prejudice All College Girls Need To Hear

Books are like the mini lives we live that only end, when we close the cover. We experience worlds inaccessible to our own and encounter individuals we may have not met or may never meet in our daily lives. After all, it is a universally acknowledged truth, that books carry lessons applicable to every stage of life, that’s why they’re classics.

1. “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

Alright so let’s get one thing straight, men want women at every stage of their life, but only want a woman, when they finally mature…or at least come close to that point. So of course, the same is true for women. While you may not be searching for a hubby right now, in order to have a successful relationship, you must be first secure in your own life, then everything else will fall into place.

2. “Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”

Opinion is a powerful social construction; it has the ability to create and destroy. Never let anyone’s opinion of you destroy you. In the same respect, never let your own opinion destroy you.

3. “I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.”

Forgiveness is an attribute either freely given or not given enough. If someone crosses you, be weary of giving them a second chance, especially if they are a third offender. You need to think about yourself, and it might be time to walk away.

4. “A lady’s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony, in a moment.”

Women’s minds process about a million thoughts a minute. We feel love, hate, and despair all at once. Breathe. Reassess. You’ve got this.

5. “There is, I believe, in every disposition a tendency to some particular evil— a natural defect, which not even the best education can overcome.”

You’re only human. You’ll mess up. You’ll fall down. Just remember to pick yourself back up, because you deserve better.

6. “The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.”

People can be mean, ignorant, and even idiotic. What’s the best way to change people? Be what you want them to be; show them the best is possible.

7. “Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.”

No matter what you have done in the past, today is today, make of it what you want.

8. “The power of doing anything with quickness is always prized much by the possessor, and often without any attention to the imperfection of the performance.”

What’s that old saying? Oh yeah, do things right the first time. While you may be overzealous, when it comes to a project or planning an event, be sure to remain focused on all facets of the issue and Ariana will be proud.

9. “Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion.”

Say true to yourself. Never let anyone try to change you; people will try to when you least expect it.

10. “To yield readily–easily–to the persuasion of a friend is no merit…. To yield without conviction is no compliment to the understanding of either.”

Speaking of the power of persuasion, considering another person’s important is still important, but be careful not to become ignorant.

11. “You expect me to account for opinions which you choose to call mine, but which I have never acknowledged.”

Saying someone is something they aren’t is never acceptable. Just leave the high school drama behind.

12. “I have been a selfish being all my life, in practice, though not in principle.”

Sometimes it’s okay to be selfish. We give all we can, but if we never get back anything, what is left of us?
