Tristan Davis: Volleyball, Brotherhood and Whatever Comes Next

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Tristan Davis is a familiar face to many on the Lasell College campus. And if he isn’t familiar, then it’s time to reach out and get to know him. As a junior Communications major with a focus in media writing and journalism, it’s no surprise Davis has the ability to strike up a conversation with almost anybody. His charm matched with a satirical humor makes it no surprise that his celebrity idol is Collin Jost, head writer and performer for Saturday Night Live. “He has the ideal life…he embodies what it means to be a comedy writer and entertainer” Davis says.

Though it seems Davis is set on keeping to the writing side of things. He aspires to work for a major publication such as Esquire, ESPN or Rolling Stone magazines, though he wouldn’t say “no” to an offer on late night TV or radio.

So how did this Rochester native end up in Auburndale, Mass? It’s simple. Volleyball. As one of the shining members of the GNAC championship team, Davis talks about his teammates with much respect and many good memories. His favorite memories of the past two years centered around the brotherhood of the men’s Volleyball team, including being the first ones to win this particular GNAC title for the college. He went on to talk about their trip to the NCAA’s. “We just went in wanting to have a blast” and they did. They matched their competitors in the first round point for point and made their opponents work hard for their win. He looks forward to returning to the court this year.

Davis’s involvement also includes writing for the 1851 Chronicle, one of Lasell’s esteemed publications and was moved from writer to editor this year. He’s also a member of the Blue Key Society for the Office of Admissions. His passion for Lasell and what it has been able to offer him, makes him one of the best student ambassadors on staff.

His favorite quote comes from professional coach Lou Holtz who said “Don’t tell your problems to people: eighty percent don’t care; and the other twenty percent are glad you have them.” Davis believes in the power of independence when it comes to solving problems. But also very much values the people he leans on, as well as those who lean on him for support.

If the past is any sign for what’s to come for him at Lasell and beyond, the future is looking bright for Tristan Davis. There is no limit to his possibilities.
