Sexposed: Questions to Ask Before a One Night Stand

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

One night stands are tricky. Ask yourself these questions before going home with someone new…

Does sex always have to have feelings attached?

For some people yes, for some people no, for some people it just depends on who they’re hooking up with. Analyze yourself enough to know whether or not you’re the kind of person who can say “f*** it” and follow through. Literally.

Will the morning bring regret?

Regret can get heavy. Whether spending the night or not, waking up the next morning with memories of some bedroom rendezvous might not necessarily bring back the satisfaction.  Or there could have been no satisfaction at all. Bad sex can leave both people feeling awkward and weird afterwards.

Do you trust them when they say they’re clean?

Let’s get real. No one wants to wake up and have that itch they can’t scratch. Or something worse. Sexually Transmitted Diseases aren’t a joke. They’re a reality. Use a condom, sure. Latex can break and lambskin may feel nice, but they don’t protect against STD’s. And let’s face it, when people are thirsty enough, they’ll say anything to get it in, get it done and go forward.

Are one or both of you under the influence?

Drugs, alcohol or all of the above, a person under the influence of these things cannot legally consent to sexual intercourse. This isn’t a well-known fact and lots of people use some liquid courage to make the move on someone they wouldn’t usually. Not to mention who can really tell if that guy you just met is blackout or really friendly, or if that girl is tipsy or just a bit clumsy? Drugs and alcohol can also dim standards yes, but more importantly it can take away that creeper radar we all have to rely on at some point.

At the end of the day, two consenting adults can do whatever they want, wherever they want (within reason of course). It’s just important to understand what kind of sex life is right for you. Kind of like finding the right pair of jeans. It takes proper time and thought. Once one brand works, it REALLY WORKS. Just keep these thoughts in mind next time that creepy three jumps to a fine eight after a glass or two.

Happy Hunting.
