Risley Dudley: Rising Star at LCR

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Risley Dudley, junior, has had a love for radio since her days in high school. She would spend her days listening to different shows. As a freshman, she joined Lasell College Radio (LCR) in the first year after the renovation. Since her freshman year, not only has the staff of LCR learned a lot, Dudley has as well.

Radio has changed dramatically since my first year. My first year was kind of a mess. They had just renovated the entire station and were trying to learn all of the equipment and how it works. I had no experience what so ever and honestly had no business trying to use the equipment. Now I actually know how everything works which is good because it’d be a problem if I didn’t,” Dudley said.

Her passion for radio goes back far before college. In high school, she would spend her days listening to stations and finding new shows.

Listening to the radio stations in my area was my life in high school. Listening to the different shows always put me in a happy mood no matter how I was feeling. I mainly joined radio because of how the stations around me made me feel. I wanted to be able to say ‘I made someone’s day better’ and just knowing that I have my show,” she said.

At the end of sophomore year, Dudley was told that she would become the new station manager in her junior year. Now, in her first year as manager she has successfully hosted the annual Creeps N Ghouls dance and has big plans for the next year.

As a freshman, Dudley had a rocky start to Lasell. Using this as inspiration, her main goal is to create more friendships and connections among the large staff of LCR.

During my first few months at Lasell I struggled with having friends and that was definitely when I threw myself in working at the radio station. The more involved I became, the more I not only found what I love doing but I also found some amazing people. We have so many members but the majority of them have no idea who some of them are. That would be something major that I would change,” she said.

With the first half of the year almost over, Lasell is excited to see what Dudley is going to change for LCR.
