Kelsy Chandler

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Kelsy Chandler is definitely a student to aspire too. She has accomplished so much in her college career. Over the last few years she has done three years of community service. Kelsy has been involved in local and city-wide walks, Best Buddies events for students with disabilities, various events to raise awareness toward social justice issues and a few clubs involving community service based work. She was also president of a club called Hope For Humanity for three semesters.

Kelsy is majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Leadership in Civic Engagement. Tying together her community service and education major, she studied abroad in South Africa teaching 4th grade students. The students at Lynedeoch Primary School experience rough life struggles, and because of the opportunity of teaching these students, Kelsy’s view on education has changed.

Similar to her major, her minor has also opened doors for her. Her minor requires her to have 100 hours at the Friday Night Supper Program in Boston. Since completing her hours, she has continued volunteer at the program as the Volunteer Coordinator.

Currently, she wants to raise awareness of teaching at the Lynedeoch Primary School. “My current mission is working on simple awareness of Lynedoch School by presenting my experiences to anyone interested. I want students from Lasell to not fear traveling to a third world country but rather, be excited for it like I was. I am brain storming more ideas for further assistance but for now, I am thankful for the opportunity I had to work there.”

Kelsy plans on using her Lasell education by teaching in the public school system for a while. She hopes to one day use her community service background and teach for a non-profit program. She also hopes to continue her relationship with Lynedeoch.
