Getting to Know Your Political Beliefs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Do you know who you’re voting for? Do you even know which political party you side with? Meet isidewith.com. Amidst all the lies, controversy, and negative campaign attacks, you can easily learn what candidates actually stand for through this website. A bonus: you might learn a few things about yourself, too.

In order to find out which politician you match up with best, the site asks you questions regarding things like the environment, gun control, foreign policies, plus several other categories. You can choose to answer as many or as few as you’d like, and you can even prioritize issues by how important they are to you. Just answering the questions is a great way to get your gears turning about issues you’ve never thought about before or are undecided about. Most questions provide a little bit of background info and arguments for each side in case you’re not familiar with it, and that may encourage you to research the topic further to decide where you stand. Once you’ve finished the questionnaire- and be warned, if you want to be thorough you should designate at least 15 to 20 minutes- the website will tell you by percentages who you match with. It also tells you which categories you agree with each candidate on.

In addition to doing all the gritty research and digging for you in order to hand you your candidate on a silver platter, you can also scroll further to find out general information about who you are in the world of politics. These things include Democrat versus Republican, Socialist versus Capitalist, and left wing versus right wing. It even goes as far to say how strongly you push towards one side or another.

The millennial generation is known for not being very politically involved or jumping on board with a popular candidate they don’t really know anything about. isidewith.com is an opportunity for them- or anyone- to get to know their own political personality and be familiarized with both issues, candidates, and political terminology.
