6 Reasons to Stay Inside on Black Friday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Black Friday is the day where everyone wakes up at 3 a.m. and rushes to malls and stores in order to get the best deals on all sorts of items.  Dated on the day right after Thanksgiving, it seems almost ironic to have such a selfish holiday right after the day of giving.  Instead of getting stuck in mobs, waiting outside of stores in the cold, or waking up early, it’s better to just stay cozy inside.  Here are six reasons why it’s better to avoid the chaotic mess of Black Friday.

1.     SLEEPING IN.

This is probably the most important reason. Think how good it’ll feel sleeping in a nice, warm bed instead of camping outside in the freezing cold.  Plus, it’s hard to drive or make rational decisions when not well-rested.  Hence, it’s just better to stay home.

2.     If you stay home, you won’t get trampled.

There was once reports in 2008 where a temporary Walmart employee was trampled to death after a large crowd poured through the store’s doors.  Thousands yearly have reported broken bones and had to be shipped to the hospital during Black Friday shopping.  Is it really worth it? Just stay home.

3.     You won’t make retail employees’ lives hell.

Working on Black Friday is one of the most stressful, tiring shifts of the year for most retail workers.  Most companies don’t even allow their workers to take off such an important holiday.  Just save them the trouble.

4.     The sales aren’t even that good.

Think about it, it’s only 15 percent off of a TV, is it really worth camping out for hours and sleeping outside?  Most sales are seen around two or three times a year, not just Black Friday.  Sometimes, the sales are even better at different points of the year, just wait it out.

5.     Black Friday shoppers take it WAY too seriously.

Again, refer to number two.  People have DIED. One year, a man pulled a firearm out on another person for cutting in line.  It’s just safer to stay indoors.

6.     There’s always Cyber Monday!

Black Friday is alright, but there is always a chance to get some sweet deals on Cyber Monday where you can sleep in, drink coffee, eat those Thanksgiving leftovers and not be forced to wear pants. Above all else, pants are the real enemy here.
