The Greatest Showman Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

As a musical lover and Zac Efron fan, when I heard that he was part of a new musical film I knew I had to go and see it.

I had read many tweets raving about how The Greatest Showman was the ‘next best thing since High School Musical’ and the ‘best film of 2018’. Both big claims, especially considering how much I love High School Musical and how January only just passed us by.

I am relieved to say that I was not disappointed.

More than that, in fact, TGS is one of the best films I have seen for a very long time. There doesn’t seem to be many things out there at the moment that have a happy, uplifting message that generally just make you feel positive after watching, like this. You could tell I wasn’t the only one feeling this when much of the audience proceeded to applause when the credits rolled on the screen.

This film ticked all the boxes and more. I have been listening to the soundtrack repeatedly and it wouldn’t take much persuasion for me to go and see it again.

I think the film would appeal to a wide audience, as without spoiling anything, there quite literally is something for everyone (excuse the cliché).

My only criticism of the film is the involvement of animals in the circus scenes. Although this was not a major part, with the welfare of animals being such an important and worthy issue, the film could have easily done away with such circus traditions.

Nevertheless, I love how The Greatest Showman celebrates diversity, something which we all need to do more of.

If you’re looking for something to do this week, put going to the cinema on your list. With Lancaster Vue tickets being only £5 for everyone, you have no excuse.
