What is a capsule wardrobe? According to Susie Faux (the creator of capsule wardrobe), it is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion that can be enhanced with other pieces.

We as girls say, “I don’t have anything to wear!” while staring at a closet full of clothes. We buy clothes but end up wearing old ones. We have clothes with the price tags still attached.  We have those jeans from our “thinner” days that we keep as we tell ourselves, “I’ll fit into those again.” We have shirts from seversl years ago stashed in our closet because we believe we’ll wear them someday. Am I right, or am I right? I’m still transitioning out of this category, but I’ve recently developed a few outfits in my ‘capsule wardrobe’ that are very versatile and requires minimal effort in the mornings.

Starting top-left, going down: white shorts, navy harem pants, blush silk button up, chambray button up, white pants, plaid button up, black spaghetti strap, gray v-neck, black round neck, black skirt, black jersey tank top, white round neck, boyfriend jeans, jean shorts, jean jeggings, black jeggings.

These are the clothing pieces that I wear most frequently. Here are some ways I like to pair them:

White shirt + skirt + tennis shoes // white shirt + black jeggings + tennis shoes // white shirt + jeggings + white tennis shoes // white shirt + jeggings + birks // white shirt + white jeans + birks // white shirt + jean shorts + birks

Spaghetti strap + shorts + birks // spaghetti strap + black jeggings + flats

Black jersey tank top + black jeggings + tennis shoes // black jersey tank top + harem pants + flats

blush button up + harem pants + blush heels // chambray button up + black jeggings + tan/black wedges

grey t-shirt dress + tennis shoes/birks // add a flannel

black/gray shirt + jean jeggings/shorts + tennis shoes

black maxi + black/tan wedges/birks

These are just some ideas on how to recycle your pieces of clothing without having to buy new clothes constantly. For me, it’s about simplicity, comfort, and neutral colors, but you can add a twist to your capsule wardrobe. After all, clothes are a way of self-expression!

Heidi Park is a junior at University of La Verne majoring in Child Development, specializing in Speech Therapy. This is her second year being part of the Her Campus team and has taken the role as Secretary, Blog Editor, and Snapshot Editor. Heidi is currently working in BUSD as a co-teacher, and as a behavior interventionist for ACT. She likes to de-stress by cooking, cleaning, reading, and watching Netflix. In her free time she likes to people watch at Starbucks (or really, anywhere), snack/eat until she is guiltily full, and hang out with the ones she loves. At first glance she may seem/look intimidating but once you get to know her she is a soft marshmallow (especially for dogs, cats, and babies).
