While students were still enjoying the the last day of summers, they got a frightening email about the recent car robberies on campus. La Verne is supposed to be one of the safest cities ever with their low rate of crime, however recently there has been car robberies that took the campus off notice.
On August 21, between 6:00am and 8:00am there were many attempted car burglaries in Lot H in Oaks. Campus Safety sent out an email announcing the incident. They also attached a photo of a male with a dark colored hoodie and a baseball cap. Even though this incident did occur, the school kept quiet about other incidents on campus that shook students up.
In Lot D, two males and a female broke into a car parked directly in front of the Campus Safety office and attempted to take the car. Due to possibly not knowing what they were doing, they settled with stealing the students battery and some belongings. The incident occurred on a Sunday at 7:30am. When students were told this incident they were shocked, mainly because the student took all of the precautions to keep his vehicle protected. Students were also shocked because the car was parked directly in front of campus safety at a reasonable time where workers should have been present. Students are starting to question the “so called” safety on campus after dealing with other incidents. Most incidents are not even reported.
Students are encouraged to follow the quick easy steps to keeping their car safe on campus.
1) If parking in the structure there are several cameras in the structure, definitely park by one of them.
2) Do not leave important valuables in your car!
3) Constantly check your car.
4) Always park where other students, faculty and people are.
5) If you see sketchy people around campus, please alert someone.
