Jamar is a student athlete, a resident assistant, and a leader on campus. He’s able to balance his studies, his personal life, working out and putting on countless programs for his residents. Being an RA in Stu-Han was different than his current job as an RA in Vista. His main focus is to build a community. Realizing it’s hard to build a community, he plans many programs and tries really hard to get residents out of their Vista suites and become more “family oriented.”

His programs are not limited to the average programs. He’s had 60 to 80 people in a Stu-Han lounge playing XBox Kinect and was even able to get his residents to experience the tragedy of the Holocaust at the Museum of Tolerance. Jamar aims high and is a great example of a leader on campus.

How would you describe your contributions to the La Verne campus?

I would definitely describe it as contributing my leadership, especially for student athletes. I’d definitely have to describe myself as a leader.

How have your years at La Verne shaped you as an individual?

Definitely as making me a lot stronger from the time I got here. Being a student athlete I do a lot of tributes and trials, as far as ups and downs. Going to football practice, my footballs games, doing good, then getting hurt and finding that strength to get back up. Also still continuing my studies, showing my elite results and getting back on the field and doing great things even after multiple injuries. That would definitely have to be the biggest struggle.

Do you have any plans for after graduation?

Fortunately I’ve actually been hired as a football coach here. I want to make sure I get my Masters so it worked out great. They’ll be paying for me to get my masters in full, so I’ll be doing that for the next year and a half. I’ve been a football coach for six years in my own private company, but this will be my first time coaching for an actual official team.
