When we get stressed, it’s easy to reach for the junk food. This will not only make you feel worse but can also slow down your brain functioning. With finals right around the corner, it’s a good time to start rethinking the way you snack!

1. Crackers and peanut butter with a banana. Not only is this a classic, but it is also packed with protein. Protein is a great energy booster and will keep you going through those tough assignments!

2.  Banana, kale and almond milk smoothie. When it’s midnight and Juice Stop is not within your reach but you have to have that smoothie NOW, this is a great one to try! It packs in your nutrients and keeps you going through the night. Orange juice is also a great substitute if you’re feeling kind of slow or sick.

3. Hummus. A Mediterranean classic! Its packed with protein and can be eaten with veggies or pita. It gives you more variety when choosing what sounds good and can really fill you up so you don’t have to think about food longer.

4. Chocolate and peanut butter dipped pretzels. Okay, sometimes you just have to have to satisfy that craving for something sweet. These are a great lower-calorie snack that includes chocolate and (you guessed it) more protein. Starting to sense a theme?

5. Fresh guac. It’s fast and easy to make, and it’s also another food you can get variety out of. There are tons of ways to eat it and tons of different things you can add to it to make it your own. All you need is some avocados, onion and tomato. You can always add some lime juice and cilantro if you’re feeling fancy! Guac is a great way to pack in some veggies when surrounded by junk food.

6. Granola. Its not just a breakfast food! Granola can add a lot of needed fiber to your study diet. It’s fast and easy to get and you can mix it with just about anything. Yogurt and berries are the traditional favorite, but it can be good with just milk too!

7. String Cheese! You remember string cheese from your youth? The fun easy go to snack is a great study food! Its fast and cheap for when you just need something to keep you going!

8. Nuts. Nuts can be a great easy snack for thoughtful munching. They pack a lot of protein and can be added to other things to make lots of different snacks. You could dip them in chocolate, honey roast them or add them to trail mix. The possibilities are endless!

9. Ants on a log. If you need a break and want something a bit more festive but just as quick and cheap, consider this kiddie favorite. It’s just celery packed with peanut butter and raisins. Super simple, super fast, super yummy and healthy!

10. Cottage cheese. So much protein! Fast and affordable, cottage cheese is a great late-night pick me up or a fast lunch if you’re in a pinch. Try it with fruit or just salt and pepper. Yum!
