Holidays In March To Look Forward To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

March is the best month during the school year. It starts to get warmer and the sun starts shining bright. Everyone enjoys spring break at the beach, getting that summer tan we’ve been longing for. Besides March Madness and spring break here are the other holidays to enjoy your days with:

March 2: The Oscars

The biggest night for actors and actresses. This year Ellen Degeneres will host the festivities. Will Leonardo DiCaprio capture his first Oscar? Who’s going to win Best Movie? My vote is either for “12 Years a Slave,” “Her” or “Dallas Buyers Club.” If you haven’t seen these movies, you definitely should. There are always the favorites during the awards season who’ve been winning all awards season: Lupita Ny’ongo, Jared Leto, Matthew Mcconaughey, or Cate Blanchett. Tune in to ABC at 6 p.m. to catch all the excitement.

March 4: Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday)

It’s the day before Ash Wednesday, so for most people it’s a day to eat whatever they want before they give something up for Lent the next day. For people who aren’t religious, it’s a day to party and drink. Most people know Mardi Gras in New Orleans is infamous for its beads and parades. For people stuck in the Midwest, it’s a day to get cheap drinks (plus the whole beads thing).

March 9: Daylight Savings

Get ready to spring forward! Be sure you set your alarm clock one hour ahead. If not, you’ll be late for class and work, and who wants to be tardy? I think everyone will be ready for longer days and shorter nights.

March 14: National Pi Day

It’s a good day to eat pie. It’s a good day to celebrate math or mathematicians. Take out your calculators and try to figure out the true last number or pi— but let’s be real no one really knows the answer to that.

March 17: St. Patrick’s Day

Wear green and don’t get pinched- does that still apply in college? Revel in everything green today, whether it be from the food you eat or the color of your drink. It’s a holiday to celebrate the Irish culture, but who can’t celebrate the Irish and enjoy a green holiday at the same time? Find your four-leaf clovers and hope the Irish give you some luck!

March 20: International Earth Day

A day recognized to help save the earth. We should band together and go recycling, or plant a tree. Our natural resources are precious and we shouldn’t waste them. Gather a group of your friends and go do something the benefits the environment. No matter how big or small, it’ll have a good impact on our environment and resources.

March 23: National Chip and Dip Day

Guacamole, Queso, spinach dip or some corn dip are just a few things to dip your chip in. It’s a good day to grab your favorite dip and chips. I mean, what a better way to enjoy March Madness, am I right? Grab your friends, have a dip party and enjoy the game!
