They walk among you and you don’t even know it. They could be the girl in your biology lab or the boy leading tours around campus. Maybe she’s the nurse who asks you politely to stand on the scale before taking your blood pressure. She could even be your boss at work.
The number one lesson I can teach you about the underground world of Harry Styles fans is that they are never to be underestimated. These are people who fly seamlessly under the radar in their normal lives, then return home to dark corners to write fanfiction and post things on Tumblr akin to this:
We live a literal Hannah Montana lifestyle and you have no idea. Case in point, here’s a text message I received from a previous work colleague of mine concerning a particularly thrilling part of Harry Styles’ anatomy:
For your entertainment now, I’m going to expose you to the wildest Harry Styles posts I’ve seen in the last two weeks. This is literally the last two weeks alone, so imagine living in this world for any longer than that. The following are some favorite Tumblr tags of mine.
The further you immerse yourself in this cult group, the more you stumble upon. While, as you’re learning, the fandom can be a little wild at times, it can also take the time to make fun of itself. It’s like a secret society of people gathering on Tumblr to swap memes and inside jokes. We’re basically like the Free Masons. Free Harrys if you will.
For example, one of the best memes the fandom has ever come up with has to be Frog Harry, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Be warned, these images cannot be unseen…
Hobama, however, is a league of its own. Fans like to take on their favorite “ships” by meshing names together, like the original Larry (Louis/Harry) and “Ziam” (Zayn/Liam). This can either be a romantic pairing the fans wish would happen or otherwise just a way to tag posts about the boys’ friendships. Either way, Hobama came about and no one is really sure why but we’re all very happy it did. Recently I even stumbled across some #HernieSandles and I’m excited for this next wave of presidential/Harry memes.
Honestly, if you spent all your free time looking at that face and listening to that voice you might go a little insane, too. Regardless of your level of *ahem* admiration for Harry Styles, there’s one thing we all agree on: this quirky little guy is going to be around for a bit so we might as well embrace and love him. Also, #Hobamaisreal.
