Fall Décor: Change your living space with the season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Pumpkins on porches, leaves changing color and cozy sweaters are all great reasons to love fall in Kansas. One of the best things fall has to offer is the fall décor. Changing the scenery in your home or dorm to celebrate the season can give your space a whole new look.

With fall’s colors as inspiration, don’t be a afraid to jazz up your space with bright reds, burning oranges and sunny yellow. An easy way to integrate these autumn colors into your living area is by adding fall garland. Fall garland with leaves and berries can be hung over your fireplace or above your door bringing in a touch of fall colors without going overboard. Various garland can be found at any store where they sell crafts.

Assembling your own center piece for a coffee table or desk is another simple idea. Flowers, real or fake, can bring a little bit of the great outdoors inside. Fake fall-like flowers can last all season and give your table a festive look. You could also combine all your favorite outdoor items like pinecones, fallen leaves, berry clusters and flowers in a decorative bowl or jar.

To create art on your wall take a walk outside and look down on the ground. Pick out big, colorful leaves and press them in between a heavy book until they are dry. Once they are dry you can place them in a picture frame and hang them up on the wall.

If you are looking to update your front door look no farther than your local nursery. A fall wreath can spice up a plain door and potted mums can bring color to the entrance making your home feel warm and inviting. Don’t forget an outdoor fall décor favorite, the pumpkin. Whether you place a few near the entrance of your home or you carve it into a jack-o-lantern nothing screams “It’s fall time!” like a pumpkin.

Don’t be afraid to try out some of these ideas or even creating your own. Let Her Campus Kansas know what you use to decorate your house or dorm for the fall season.
