1. You wave to LITERALLY everyone and everything you pass by. Whether it’s friends, animals (usually cows) or a complete stranger, that hand goes up in the air as automatically as saying bless you when someone sneezes.

2. You can name every single person in your graduating class (because there’s only a handful of you.) Also their birthday, favorite food and time they go to the bathroom.

3. Going to the local Sonic is the big event of most of your Friday nights, because there’s literally nothing else to do.

4. Every party you ever went to in high school took place in either a field, around a bonfire or in a garage.

5. You never dated people in your own high school because you were most likely related in some way.

6. There may not be a grocery store in your town, but you bet your bottom there’s at least seven different churches.

7. And whichever church you go to basically defines your standing in the town. (Not going isn’t an option, whether you like it or not).

8. At least half of your graduating class gets engaged/has kids before they turn 23.

9. Traveling two hours to get to a decent clothing store is the norm.

10. You don’t have neighbors, you have extended family. Say what you want about small towns, but most people will give you the shirt off their back if you were in trouble.

11. Skip church? Call in sick to work? Have a fight with your husband/wife? Guess what, the entire town will probably know within minutes, and of course they’ll make a point to ask you about it every waking chance they get.

12. People probably wore cowboy boots and t-shirts to your school dances.

13. When people in big cities ask you where you’re from, your response is probably something like “you’ve never heard of it.”

14. High school sports weren’t an option, they were an obligation.

15. “Wanna hang out tonight?” “Yeah, let’s drive around!” -This conversation has probably been the highlight of your day at one point or another.

16. Even if you don’t know who they are, you can never leave a building without someone asking how you, your mom, your third cousin, and your dog are doing.

17. If there’s a death in the family, there’ll be so many casseroles left on your front porch you won’t have to cook for a year.

18. You’ve probably been featured in the local newspaper for high school achievements so many times you could give Brittney Spears a run for her money.

19. Washing your car is pointless because you probably have to take a dirt road to get to/leave your house.

20. Star gazing is always ten times better than it would be in the city.

21. You don’t even have a stoplight. And if you do, it’s probably just one that doesn’t serve much purpose.

22. You probably never carried a house key because nobody in town bothered locking their doors.

23. Getting a new kid in school is a monumental moment.

24. Nowhere else will ever truly feel like home, even if you detested growing up there.
