10 Reasons Why This Is Still OUR State

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

The latest Sunflower Showdown between KU & K-State on Feb. 10 ended in a devastating 82-85 loss in overtime for KU.

However, I want to re-lift all of our KU spirits again, because Kansas is still OUR state.

1. KU basketball record against K-State: 187-92

KU has beat K-State in men’s basketball over twice as many times than K-State has beat KU. So, we lost this past game, but, in the long run, we are doing just fine.

2.  KU football record against K-State: 65-40-5

3. We don’t need to make a shirt every time we win a regular season game, especially for an overtime win of 3 points.

If KU students had to buy a $20 shirt every time we beat K-state in basketball, it would cost $3,740 for the entire collection.

4. Allen Fieldhouse: One of the nation’s top home court advantages

There is nothing like the electrifying feeling of being at a game in the legendary Allen Fieldhouse. NCAA.com even named Allen Fieldhouse the “loudest, most intimidating arena in college basketball,” reaching heights of over 120 decibels.

7. There are about 40 college “Wildcats,” but, there is only one Jayhawk.

When people say “the Jayhawks,” it can only be KU. Wildcats represent not only K-State, but also Kentucky (yuck), Northwestern, Arizona, Baker University (also in Kansas), and many more.

8. Andrew Wiggins

Of all of the schools the #1 recruit in the nation, Andrew Wiggins, could have gone to, he chose to play at KU.

9.  Joel Embiid

Not only does KU have the #1 recruit, KU also has Joel Embiid, the top NBA prospect for this year’s NBA draft.
