Top 5 Reasons to Study Abroad

Top 5 Reasons to Study Abroad

Everybody knows studying abroad will “broaden your horizons,” and give you that “once-in-a-lifetime” experience that you can never forget. But while it’s common knowledge that studying abroad strengthens your independence and sets you free into the “real world” for a semester, here are five more important (and less serious) reasons why everyone should consider going abroad at some point in their life!

1. The Food

One of the perks of studying abroad is obviously the food. What can be better than fresh fish from the Baltic Sea? Or handmade Italian pizza and pasta? Or all-you-can-eat tapas? Definitely not Burger King… If anything, the best way to study abroad is to eat your way through the semester!

2. The People

No matter where you decide to study abroad, the people are usually 99.9% better looking than Americans. Whether it’s sensual Scandinavian men, Eastern European hunks or even sultry South American guys, I guarantee you that the people are genuinely sexier. In addition, you get to meet so many different people when you study abroad. Whether they’re fellow Americans, natives of the country you’re in, or people you meet while traveling around, you will meet at least one friend for life, and definitely some people you will never forget.

3. The Nightlife

Let’s face it: nightlife anywhere besides Kenyon is pretty bomb. Especially in another country. Love me a raunchy Old K party and the Cove, but European clubs and bars are on a totally different level. In addition, going out abroad gives you a totally new, “real world” experience that is definitely 100x better than what you would get in the States.

4. The Shopping

Even though most countries you would study abroad in have stores like H&M, overall, the shopping is unreal. From little boutiques, to department stores like Harrods, to even “foreign” H&Ms, the style and clothing abroad are just so much better. While your bank account might take a big blow, expanding and “diversifying” your wardrobe is definitely worth it!

5. The Traveling Opportunities

I think traveling while abroad is one of the best (if not the most fun) experiences you will ever have. When I was in Copenhagen last spring, my friends and I would take weekend trips to Sweden and Germany, which are a hop, skip, and a jump away from Denmark. In addition, (especially if you’re in Europe) you can easily travel to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Italy, etc (basically anywhere in the EU). Flights aren’t too expensive (EasyJet is your friend!) and it’s awesome to travel around and do/see what you want. If anything, traveling is one of the main reasons to go abroad in the first place!

So please with all of this being said, I encourage you to go abroad. I know that if someone handed me a ticket to go back to Denmark right now, I would jump on that plane in a heartbeat. Don’t miss that opportunity, it doesn’t come around often!
