Campus Celebrity: Beth Hyland '13By March 31, 2013 - 3:02am From performing to creating, Beth Hyland is a woman of the stage. Most of you know her as a member of the Owl Creeks, otherwise known as the a cappella queens. More recently, StageFemmes produced Post Grad, a musical that Beth wrote. The show sold-out and made the audience both laugh and cry, with its quick wit, pop-culture references, and honesty. Just in time for graduation, HerCampus Kenyon had a chance to sit down and talk with Beth about Post Grad and life at Kenyon. Name: Beth Hyland Year: Senior Major: Drama Hometown: Rochester, New York On-campus activities: Owl Creeks, KCDC, plays READ MORE |

Campus Celebrity: Meredith Bentsen '15By March 19, 2013 - 2:25pm Meredith Bentsen, it seems, can do it all. She manages to balance classes, homework, lacrosse practice, sorority life, a student council position, and so much more. This girl has really got it together. I have the pleasure of being this lady’s teammate, so I know for a fact that she is constantly busy, yet is able to make time for everything she is involved with, and trust me, that is A LOT. She took a few minutes out of her spring break in Disney World to speak with HerCampus about how she manages it all. Name: Meredith Bentsen Age: Just over 19 1/2 Hometown: Washington D.C. and Houston Texas Major: Political Science Minor: Religious Studies READ MORE |

Campus Celebrity: Lauren Amhrein '13By February 7, 2013 - 10:36pm Speaking with Lauren Amrhein, one quickly feels as if in the midst of a real-life celebrity. She is a shining example of doing things that are outside of your comfort zone, a mindset she cites as largely important in her Kenyon experience. Lauren has, undoubtedly, warmed your heart (and ears) with her folksy guitar and beautiful voice. Already a member of The Stairwells, Lauren teamed up with fellow senior Michelle Birsky this year to create The Laurels, Kenyon’s very own folk duet. Lauren and Michelle’s beautiful duet “Royals and Rocks” can be heard here, and you can watch more videos on The Laurels’ Facebook page. Read on for more about this... |

Caroline Fenn (check this girl, and her upcoming album out!)By December 13, 2012 - 10:00am Not only does singer/songwriter and Kenyon freshman Caroline Fenn come across as gracious and appreciative of recognition, she has talent—and not the kind of predictable, one-hit-wonder talent that comes and goes so frequently. No--Caroline, whose first album is set for release on January 2, is something special. Almost entirely a result of her own work (she did have a little help recording some of the instrumentals), the music on Fragile Chances is simple yet distinctive and a pleasure to listen to. But don’t just take my word for it, support a Kenyon artist and check this girl out! READ MORE |

Sarah JohnsrudeBy December 2, 2012 - 5:08pm This week, HerCampus was lucky enough to catch up with the amazing Sarah Johnsrude, theatre-maker extraordinaire. When Sarah isn’t designing a KCDC production or working in the costume shop, she can be found pursuing her sociology major or working tirelessly on an exciting new Kenyon theatre organization, StageFemmes, a women’s theatre! Not to mention, Sarah studied last Spring at the National Theatre Institute in Connecticut. Sarah (or, “Johnsy Johnsrude,” as she is affectionately known on Facebook) reminds Kenyon students to take advantage of opportunities here while you can. Read on to learn more about this busy bee! Julie Fahling: An HC *Stamp* of ApprovalBy October 26, 2012 - 10:00am A wise, talented writer once remarked, “the Gambier Post Office smells like the ‘brown paper packages tied up with string’ that Julie Andrews sings about in "My Favorite Things." The staff treat everyone with an enthusiasm and kindness that makes you feel like a G.I. returning home from World War II, remembering how wonderful America is.” Part of the joy in marching up to the window with that yellow slip comes from the anticipation of cheery small talk that creates the illusion of community the admissions department is always on about.
